Just had a quote from my own insurance company (R1) for my new toy, a 1982 GS550 Kat, fully comp on my R1 just over £300, TPFT on the kat on a sep policy - £110 with agreed value of less than £400, which I feel is bit steep. Anyone have any experience of a good insurance co? or am I just being a bit tight? Cheers
Try Footman James, Carol Nash or Ebike, all do classic policies.
Problem though is that if you’re putting it on a seperate policy to your other bike you won’t be able to use the no claims that you’ve earned for that one to get a discount on the new policy.
Cheapest is normally to stick it on your existing policy as typically for something like a GS550 it’'ll not be much more than a £25 admin charge.
Thanks mate, my existing insurers do a multi bike but they cant change my policy mid term - apparently. I would have to cancel my existing and take out a new multi bike policy and lose any no claims built up for this year. Dont you just love insurance companies!! Guess who I wont be renewing with later this year.
I’d endorse the first two of those mentioned above, but expect Carol Nash to come out best.
If you still have the bike in 3 years time, you’ll get extra discount via the Vintage Motorcycle Club.
Weird. A '78 Japanese machine is now “vintage”. If looked after, some of those are just about run in. Was talking to a Kawasaki Z900 owner on Monday. 1 owner, 180K mileage.
Thanks guys, just insured it for £56 TPFT through ‘just motorcycles’ with Norwich Union. Will change to a multi bike when the R1 insurance runs out at the end of the year.
