Well, as all the critics of Chinese Fairings have never actually purchased them, or the ones that have were years ago before they started using Injection Moulding i decided i would do a Diary of my Expierience with Chinese Fairings so that people have something to Look at for Guidence.
As some of you may know, Toony had a little spill on his bike a few weeks ago on the Southend Shakedown Ride Out. He scuffed all his Panels up and cracked one of them ever so slightly, He has been getting Quotes of almost £900 to respray the bike so we are going to get a set of Chinese Fairings from ebay for £329 and fit them. We will then sell the slightly Damaged OEM panels and hopefully get back at least 50% of the cost of the Chinese Fairings.
After lots of deliberation and scouring 100’s of images Toony decided (with not much help from me, keep showing him different designs!) that the design he likes the most and that will keep the bike from needing a DVLA colour Change was the TAS Relentless GSXR Race Rep Scheme.
I found the seller with this design on ebay and Made payment today.
The kit is exactly the same as the bike above but without the BEACON SECURITY Logo on the rear Seat section.
I contacted the seller when i purchased the Parts asking for them to Add the bit on the Rear seat unit for me and also the Logo’s on the Undertray that Guy Martin had on his Bike when he raced with this Livery. So will see what they say about adding those bits as the site says they will make any changes/additions all free of charge.
The Auction states the expected Delivery date is Between Friday 1st May and Thursday 7th May so that lead time is very Good in my Opinion.
It also states that there will be Import Duty on the Goods so i contacted Gov.Uk and io expect the Import duty to be around £80 (Still well below half what we would have to pay for a respray) The company does state that they package it and state the value of the goods are only £80 so that way the Import Duty is usually around £20-£30 but i won’t know untill it arrives, but i expect £80 so if it is less it will be a very nice surprise.
The Import Duty is normally 20% of the declared value of the goods on the Customs Declaration plus a handling fee of around £10 depending on the carrier, Royal Mails current import duty handling fee is £8.00.
Note - if the seller places a low value on the goods its still possible, but not very likely, for Customs to open the package and re-value it. Also you’ll struggle with any claim should the goods arrive damaged and under valued.
For the record, I have a set of Chinese fleebay fairings on my CBR. Injection molded, they are superb for the money. Increased my horse power up by a further 50BHP too
Well, so far im very impressed, the level of communication is great, as is there grasp of English. They are extremely helpful in making sure they know exactly what changes I want and ensuring no mistakes are made prior to production. They reply very quick to my emails and are always polite and helpful.
Just had an email from them again, they have now confirmed all the changes i have made, we are both happy we understand what the changes are and they have said they are going to take pictures of the finished product and send them to me before they send the fairings out to ensure they have been done to specification and to avoid me having to send them back, she said if the photos are wrong then they will rectify the problems until i am happy before dispatching the goods.
So far it has been a very pleasant expierience and one of the best communications i’ve had from a seller on ebay. If the product is half as good as the customer services then i will be a very happy man.
given on what I’ve seen from two others who have had chinese fairings, the comms are generally good but you will need to modify them a bit to get them to fit. just prepare yourself for that but if you’re moderately handy with tools, shouldn’t be too tricky
Just got the email saying the fairings are all complete, the picture was a little small so couldn’t get a proper look at the detail, i’ve asked for a better image, but all going well i should have the panels within a week
