I’m thinking of buying a new Arai. A brief survey of the shops and internet reveals that the prices are pretty much fixed with no real bargains to be had. But then I came across a site called Bikers Bargains (link below) which seems to undercut everyone by a substantial amount. Before I lay down my hard earned dosh I was just wondering whether anyone has ever used them before. It just seems too good to be true. Any help appreciated.

We have come across them before, as long as they are EUROPEAN spec helmets then theres no problem…also very important make sure that they are NOT crossing out any details from the orange tag on the helmet strap as this potentially could land you in a world of shite ( very very unlikely )
If the orange tag showing country of origin has been tampered this in theory invalidates it, as a consequence it technically means that you are riding without a helmet and in theory then voids your insurance…so thats riding without a helmet and no insurance then
Its got to be a seriously upset anal copper to firstly check the tag and then do you for it though
Check that the helmets they’re selling are UK ones (or at least ones produced for the EC market), also ask how old they are.
To be legal on UK roads they’ll need to have either the British BSI 6658 or European ECE 22-05 approval specified on them. If they don’t then they’re probably grey imports from somewhere outside of the EC. This doesn’t mean they’re necessarily any different or less protective than the approved ones, but I guess it could give the insurance weasels an opt out clause for paying up in the event of an accident leaving you with head injuries.
Also they won’t have an ACU gold sticker on them which in theory means you won’t be allowed on track for racing or a trackday with it, though I can’t recall ever having anyone check mine for one, not done a TD for a while though, so things may be a bit stricter these days.

Nooo not Ebay never buy a lid off ebay its as bad as buying a 2nd hand helmet, you never know what its been through, dropped, imported cheap fakes!
My penny’s worth.
Having has a friend to experienced serious head trauma, which could have been not as bad if he was wearing a better helmet, I implore you to buy a good quality lid from a reputable company for your own sake.
So go and see the man that is Baby J and he’ll help you keep your noggin safe
hiya, I bought a brand new arai from bikers bargains a month ago and it’s fine. It came well packaged and was delivered to my office by courier. £279 as opposed to £400 RRP absolute bargain! It’s an Astro-R and definately a legitimate Arai. If you’re still unsure though, go and see babyJ or ring up Phoenix who are the official uk importers. Buying online isn’t everyone’s cuppa tea though. PS mine has also has a gold sticker.
