Central London (Im starting to Hate Mopeds!)

Everyday when i come back to my bike… I find that some idiot has parked so close to my bike that when i get on it i cant lean it back straight"!! and its always Mopeds… Dont get me wrong i started on a moped when i was 17 but coz i knew i wanted to ride a motorbike i knew how annoying that would be so i had consideration!!! PLUS THE SCRATCH MY BODY WORK!!! GRRRR

Sorry for the Outburst!!

this used to happen to me all the time where I used to work… I try and avoid the bay where I work now and park on the curb (private land)…

leave them a note thats what I did on a couple of occassions, or just move the bike, what option do you have

No option! Yet they want to start charging us for parking!! Its a joke! On my last bike a ped was actually sitting on my exhaust!! I got to be honest i just pushed it over!!

There are 2 kinds of moped riders - those that are on their way up to bigger better things - know a thing or two about bikes and do everything correctly.

Then theres the city slicks and suits that hop onto one after a few hours training and travel to and from work for 3 or 4 months per year - these are the ones that dont life save, dont indicate (and if they do they leave it on) - i saw one today with the mirrors bent down!!! I even saw a mum take her kid to school on one - its just a matter of time before the mum run will be the scooter run.

But dont get me wrong the geared 125 are not far off!!!

carry around a pack of kids stickers and plaster them all over. that might make them think twice. plus they’ll have fun getting them off!

Thats a quality Idea!! Gonna buy some of those stickers that say dickhead and ****** and allsorts and stick them in my seat!

s

Well Said! The worst for me are the rude boys that wanna race lol!! im at the lights and there on there 125 giving it vrrooomm vrrrooomm…

Spooky you saying that - check out my “You have been warned” post!:stuck_out_tongue:

They’re are ridiculous. 125 riders always try to race me; obviously they get destroyed at the lights as I accelarate to 30, then about 2 minutes later they come storming past, head down, struggling to hold 40 mph (I stick to the limit in cities). Then it happens all again. Its stupid. Don’t know what they’re trying to prove.

Yeh its imbarresing for them but they think they look cool! So ahh well let them think that!

Yep every day at every set of lights to and from work:P. / it happens to me, they do seem to have a great sence of joy when they catch up well im assuming they do otherwise why do they bother.

They do make me laugh though i must admit. Except when the drive like described in the post “You Have Been Warned” clearly just fools that will end up on a morticians slab.

Probably the same sort of thing that guys on sports bikes are trying to prove when they force their way over the white lines at junctions to get in front of me, and then dither around at 15-20mph when the lights go green.

If only we were all perfect

Hah! now I know ur all not generalising here cause you gotta bigger bike n all… I know theres some 125 twxts out there but there are some 600/750/100 twxts too… in fact the bigger u are the bigger the twxt. Dont get me wrong I dislike anything two or four wheeled big or small that is driven by a dxckhexd. I learnt on a 100 went upto a 400 then a 650 then back down to a 125 when I moved here n now Im on a 400 again. Its not the bike its the peanut riding it. Today commin in to work I was sittin in MY lane, front wheel touching the line with cars behind me. I watchd in my mirror as a GXSR came muscling his way between the two lines then sat behind a ped revving his throttle n bumping the peds back wheel just because he wanted to get in front. The poor ped couldnt go anywhere as there was a Bandit sat across the lines between the cars blocking anyone else getting through. I pulled away at green and watched the GSXR come screaming past in his matching leathers and boots pinning the throttle back and then lose it on the corner. The ped stopped and helped the twxt pick his bike up and drag it to the side of the road while I collect the shattered plastics and warn oncoming traffic. Big bad biker boy then started flipping out at ped boy and blaming him for the spill. Ped boy took his abuse, moved the bike off the road climbed back onto his gilera runner and continued on his merry way. He never had a go or laughed at twxt boy. My respect to you ped boy!

I find that small scooter riders think thay can sqeeze there scoot inbetween to bikes already parked next to each other, i hate this as it`s nearly impossible to get your own bike out or you find your bike has a scratch on it.

you cant really generalise here…
i got a geared 125 and its fun staying not too far off from a bigger bike…
if theres a 600 going at it, then im cool doing a bit quicker cos you’re “keeping with traffic” :P…otherwise ill stick near enough to speed limits just so im in front of impatient car’s
but everytime i see a bigger bike ill move to the left and let em’ pass if they wanna make their own progress

i do smile a bit inside whenever a supersports gets stuck in traffic and pass by, but well what else can i get kicks out of if those bikes are faster in first gear, than i am flat out :hehe:

Scooter riders are jealous of bikes because they are faster bigger and generally more exclusive.

Bike riders are jealous of scooters because they are smaller nippier easier to park more comfortable and generally less exclusive.

Some people aren’t jealous

All of these are equally valid and not mutually exclusive opinions IMO

Trashpuppy got it right, it’s not he bike it’s the rider.

In one day a couple of weeks back I had a BMW rider wave me through when he wasn’t going to make the gap and another BMW rider baulk me twice and make both of us sit through a very long phase of lights.

The same day I followed a girl on a superscooter who was so good, so smooth and so quick it was a joy just to follow.

On the other hand, the two worst parkers in my office M/C bay are both twist and go scooter rider.

But then I know both of them and they are both dickheads anyway.

THIS is the problem. I would imagine, from my own experience, that the 600 riders you speak of are in no way trying to race you, only to stop you racing them, which you insinuate that you do to some extent. You don’t have the power (or, dare I say it, probably experience either) to be doing this, and you’re going to endanger yourself and other riders. NOBODY should race especially in a city; big bikes may appear to be racing TO YOU, probably because of the speed at which the accelerate away, but most are probably not racing you…why would they? The ‘race’ is done before it starts, and the only way you will ‘beat’ them is if you break the speed limit.

PLEASE end this ‘everytime I see a big bike I try to keep up/overtake’ attitude, you’re going to hurt yourself or somebody else. The riders you are trying to ‘race’ probably just see you trying it on and try to get away from you so you don’t endanger them.

Thats complete rubbish, i ride a scooter and i dont feel that way. MOst small scooter riders are just commuters and dont give a toss or know anything about the biking world. On here we have Richm who has a Fireblade but rides to work on a 125cc Piaggio Skipper Scooter, he says he gets loads of diresect from bikers as he`s on a scooter. He not jelous as he has his blade at home.
So you see you are talking out of your @rse.

I can tell you that as a big bike rider; everyday I have at least 5 or 6 instances of small bikes straining to keep up/overtake me, my thoughts are not ‘wow that guy must be brilliant, he can keep up on a little bike!’; my thoughts are a mixture of ‘please don’t hurt yourself’, ‘please don’t overtake me then slow me down at the lights’, ‘you’re going to get a speeding fine’, and ‘please don’t swerve in front of me…get away from me!’.

A 125 Varadero (not L plates) I went past yesterday in heavy traffic STORMED past me at what must have 50mph on London bridge, about 20m before a queue, swung in front of me, slammed his brakes on, then couldn’t filter so held me up. Just to prove that it was actually he, not me, who was the fastest rider. Completely pointless, and dangerous. He gained nothing, I lost out, and he endangered both of us. I didn’t think, wow, he’s fast. Anybody can go 50mph accross London bridge, but I don’t want points. So all he proved is that he values his license less then I value mine. And that he can’t filter.
