CBR600f - should it have a centre stand ?

Hi all,

I’m currently looking at a CBR600f and wanted to check something with people who know - should this motorcycle have a centre stand ?

Every one I’ve ever seen does, and the MCN review at http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Honda/HONDA-CBR600F-2000--current/ seems to believe it should as well.

The bike I’m looking at is a 2006 model, 06 plate but doesn’t have the centre stand.

It does have an akrapovic exhaust, and I believe that the centre stand ‘stop’ to stop it raising up to the level of the chain was mounted near the exhaust - could this be why there isn’t one? If so, would I be being cheeky if I asked for the price to be reduced or a centre stand fitted ?

I just HATE using the paddock stand - I screw up the scottoiler every single time I use the paddock stand for chain adjustment or cleaning.

the exhaust probably required removal of the centre stand due to a clearance issue , it’s common , is it a full akro system ?

It looks like it’s just an akro end-can from what I can tell. But I know nothing about exhausts really

The 2006 models definately had centre stands and I can remember looking at different exhausts when I had mine, a fair few needed the removal of the centre stand as said above.

Right - I’ve checked and the dealer has found the centrestand for me, so I can have that. But not with the aftermarket can.

Does anyone know of a mod for the CBR600f that allows the main stand to be used with an aftermarket can ?

My last bike had a dodgy extra bit bolted on that the main stand stopped up against, but that sometimes rotated out of the way and caused the chain to bash against the stand until I noticed and fixed it.

are you sure you’re not looking at the FSport?
if it has a banana seat it should have a centre stand, however the stepped-seat FSport doesnt.

Why would you want a centrestand?

It’s just another thing to dig into the tarmac:w00t::smiley:

I have a centre stand on my 600f, mine is a 2001, I have an aftermarket blueflame end can and didn’t need to take the centre stand off so no reason the one your looking at shouldn’t have one, but saying that a lot of people do take them off for the reason Chunky has stated

Absolutely positive - It’s definitely the CBR f with the grab rails, etc. As soon as you put the word ‘sport’ on it, my insurance company beats me with a large stick

Turns out the stand was removed to fit the akrapovic can, so I need to see if there is any way for these to co-exist.

Every time I stick a bike on a paddock stand to adjust the chain, I ruin the scottoiler delivery. Centre stand just makes this loads easier

Just get some bobbins put on for a paddock stand? I think it should solve this problem

Bobbins? Would they have to go on the bike? And also a mod to the paddock stand ?

I’ve just got a bog standard Oxford paddock stand, but I’d be tempted to flog the OEM can and centrestand to pay for bobbins if it meant I could keep the Akro

You could pick up the bobbins for under £20 I reckon, it sounds like you have the paddock stand that is used on the swing arm (with a flat plate) you would need to have the one with the forks/hooks instead.

You can buy forks from Oxford to convert your original stand:)

Oh good point, nice and cheap then

Absolutely stunning! Thanks guys

The issue may be that the stock exhaust has a bump stop for the centre stand to stop it fouling the chain. The aftermarket can may not so if you put the centres stand back on it will foul the chain. You can get somewhere like SBK London to come up with a solution if that is the issue. A Honda dealer won’t generally do this type of modification because they generally fit standard parts and don’t have as much freedom to be creative with the mig welder, hacksaw and clamps.
