This is horrific! Glad you are OK fella and gutted about the bike. You give the insurance fecking hell if they fight this, you should be going for compensation for personal trauma rather than fighting for a claim for theft that you are clearly covered for x Who are the insurers so that the rest of us can stear well clear!!

Well you’re damn right. I reckon they deserve a bit of positive PR myself…
I have received a phone call today from my insurers (Equity Red Star) regarding my ‘incident’ on monday, and they have agreed to pay the claim, we agreed on the same value of the bike that I paid in July, so there is little to debate. (Unfortunately I have a £650 exces which is a pain but such is life).
The agent has stated that I should receive a cheque early next week. He advised that the company has stated that they will be resolving all claims as soon as possible. I reckon they deserve a bit of positive press over this, I would not have expected settlement within a week, even under normal circumstances (whatever that is).
The same agent also told me that he had 5 claims to settle, all in similar circumstances, involving bikers in London, at least three of which were in the Peckham area (also one in South London which may have been local, and the remaining claim for an instance in Barnet). That is just from one insurance company!

Most insurance policies don’t cover terrorism, riots, civil
unrest, natural and nuclear disasters, etc. And such
info will be tucked away in the small print.
However, as we now know the insurance companies
have said they will pay up for the recent riots as they
have the right to reclaim it from the police!
So we all end up paying as usual

I received notice from the Police today that they have recovered the bike. I know nothing of it’s condition but it was described to me as definitely damaged. Technically it’s not mine now anyway, and I am not convinced I want it to be.
Any word on whether they know who stole the bike and attacked you?
It must be a pretty scary experience.
I just hope all this recent mayhem isn’t emboldening the little sh*tes.

Erm… Nature Girl? Peckham is a shite hole!
It’s got one of the highest rates of violent crime in the UK, there are approximately 5 active gangs in SE15 alone, it’s considered to be one of the top 10 most deprived areas in Britain. There were 3 murders in Southwark last month… and numerous stabbings, hundreds of robberies and a few shootings
Now, I live and work in SE London, lived in Lewisham for 30 years and Penge now! I love the area, but you cannot deny, compared to most other parts of the country
it doesn’t come up smelling of roses!

southwark covers a bit more, I think Oval and even Vauxhall are still Southwark, but may be wrong on the latter.
Yeah it does… Peckham is in Southwark though and you’d be surprised how much of the crap that goes on is down to Peckham gangs or rivalry between other boroughs gangs and the Peckham lot.

i live in se16 and am proud that no rioting etc happened around here and been only about 2 miles from where was happening in peckham too.;/
you only ever a mile or two the most away from a ghetto in any part of london im spose to be in bromley but if i throw a stone out the back it’ll land in downham…lol

It’s good to be proud of the area you live in… if there was a bit more of that around I’m pretty sure there wouldn’t have been any riots!

bermondsey st has become way too p0ncey for me. use to work there about 20 yrs ago when had all the antiques places etc, print firms everywhere etc was good and then that zandra rhodes bird moved in, went down hill since, lol

Although I agree with some of the things you said, I’m getting fed up with people slating SE London. I lived all over London for 13 years and every single borough has parts that can be classed as a **** hole. Even places like Notting Hill and Chelsea have numerous crack houses and plenty of gangs. On the whole, Greater London is one giant **** hole interspersed with small, very nice enclaves.
I know for a fact decathlon got looted thats in se16 i lived on albion estate for ten year an downtown before that so know the area pretty well an know for a fact se16 as a whole is has its fair share of crime.
decathlon got done and curry’s and jd sports in surrey quays, these wer w*nkers travelling around doing stores nothing to do with rioting etc.
no cars were burnt or idiots on the streets at all. Big f*cking difference.
i know se16 has its fair share of crime but the kids etc didnt decide to copy the other said idiots in peckham/lewisham etc and go on a rampage.
i was born here and am still here 41 yrs later, i would not live anywhere else in london.
I think these misconceptions will always exist - it’s more about being out of your mannor and not knowing the area, I’ve lived in SE London for 41 years and feel comfortable and at ease there, it makes me laugh when I hear people talking about SE London as ‘bandit country’ but these are people from East London or North London - I’d feel the same about places like Harlesden for example
