Hello everyone and sorry if I Am posting this in the incorrect section. I have just received a (NIP) from Surrey Police for doing 86mph in a 50, I was apparently caught going northbound on the A3 as you go from 3 lanes to 2.
I know this section of road very well and find it very hard to believe I went through the camera at that speed. I am extremely vigilant and always slow right down for the cameras. Anyway, I just wanted to know from you guys what the outcome is likely to be. I have heard it is likely to be 6 points and a large fine? I was not on my bike I was driving.
I was caught on 04/07/09 around 09:30, I know there is sometimes the mobile van operating in that area but I do not remember seeing it there that day, was anyone riding or driving that route on that day. Any help or advice would be very helpful.
Yea i do indeed have some usefull advise…when you are caught doing ( probably on your speedo ) an indicated 90 mph in a car as an A road narrows to 2 lanes …do not bother asking for advise on a bike forum cos they will all just think you are a t@sser and give you abuse
Unless it’s changed since October you’re looking at a disqualification for 30mph over the posted limit. As has been suggested your first job is to ask for the photographic evidence. However they don’t need to disclose this to you until you’ve pleaded not guilty. If I were you I would go and see a specialised road traffic defence solicitor. Even if the evidence is over whelming he/she may be able to help your mitigation to minimise your fine/points & disqualification…
Offshore… check out www.pepipoo.com there is some good advice on there, but take heed of the warnings too. Also don’t admit anywhere -including here - to anything that can incriminate you. Takes some guts to take on the feds, and play the system, not always successfully… So think carefully before taking a certain course of action. Personally I don’t think morals come into a decision like this, the justice system isn’t fair or just and the people with the ‘power’ regularly abuse it and take advantage, but if you fight the law, the law will (normally) win.
it’s supposed to be the most productive / profitable camera in the country. I remember going sideways past that camera in the pouring rain in my old mgc. Crap in the rain…
Offshore, do have a look at PepiPoo but be aware that there’s alot of bumph in there that isn’t legally correct so tread carefully. Like as has already been suggested I too would think your best bet is a specialist solicitor in a damage limitation exercise.
You’ll get some good advice here mate and some bad.
What you should be doing (as stated above a couple of times) is getting your rear to a specialist Solicitor who deals with this and getting proper legal advice. Good luck.
I am interested in this because I got hit with a NIP for 86 in a 50 from a mobile van a few months ago - the “locus” was “by Headley Drive, A3” or something similar. So did a colleague of mine, and we both swore blind that there was no way we were going that quick. For some reason the whole thing was dropped and we’ve heard nothing apart from a “no further action” letter. Now my six months is up I’m considering a FOI request to see exactly why it was dropped - dodgy site, incorrect calibration - no idea, but I want to find out!
That is very interesting because I am 100% sure I was not driving through that area at 86mph indicated, that would have been 90 indicated in a 50. It was a mobile camera under the bridge after the fixed camera after the A3 goes from 3 lanes to 2 lanes. The NIP was sent to me by Surrey Police, “Claygate area” what has happened to you then?
