Carnahan Creek Road - Manhattan, KS 10/15/05

OK…the weather here over the week-end was just AMAZING…no clouds, no wind and 75 degrees. PERFECTION.

I took the bike up the Flint Hills Scenic Byway

Friday night after work to stay in Council Grove with my wife’s parents. It was a GORGEOUS night…riding north through the Flint Hills as the sun was setting in the west…the entire prairie glowing orange…just beautiful. I was hauling arse though to ensure I made it to Council Grove before nightfall…Hitting a deer at high speeds while riding in rural Kansas would be a bad, BAD thing. My wife took my car to Council Grove to meet me…unfortunately, she hit a deer on the way and munched the front end of my Honda Accord. No injuries, though thankfully. (Other than the dead deer, that is. LOL)

In any event, I awoke Saturday with the intention of making the ride up to Manhattan…Carnahan Creek Road may well be the BEST motorcycle road in all of Kansas. The wife and I had breakfast at the historic Hays House Restaurant (http://www.hayshouse.com/) and then it was off to shoot video and melt rubber on the big sweepers of Carnahan Creek Road!!

Here are a few pictures of the days events. (I didn’t feel like stopping a lot for pictures this time…the weather was just too good to waste any of it taking pictures rather than riding. LOL)

Nice Gregman, glad she hit the deer, and not you! I’ve seen a video of a bike hitting a deer, and it bloody hurts! Thanks for sharing the pics…

Gregman… the pics are great and that road looks like heaven… Like where that deer has gone!!! He he he… Poor thing… And as for the weather… I am soooo jealous…

This is a tough time of year as it is rutting season for the deer…they are very, very active.

I read this morning that 3 riders went down on Thunder Road yesterday evening after the lead rider hit a deer. 2 walked away uninjured but the person who actually hit the deer has been hospitalized in serious condition.

So when are you guys going to come over and do some wide open Kansas riding with me?

In london we get pegions, foxy foxes and hedgehogs you get deer lol
Nice picx

hmmmm…are hedgehogs “squish-able” or “not-squish-able?”

It’s getting VERY late in the riding season here…the deer are very active and it’s getting colder. I suppose the bike will go up the stands for the winter in another couple of weeks.
