So… Cars are all but impossible to seal from the street now, and bikes are all too easy to steal from the street, so put two and two together and you can correlate the rise in bike thefts to the car industry!
Sounds like the bike industry needs to do the same.
can see that being a factor. Another factor is the lack of police resources meaning they have to prioritise and theft is always going to be put behind more serious crimes.
A big factor im sure is the rise in track day popularity, and meaning a bike has worth without needing to ever see the road/mot/insurance again.
It’s the same as bicycles getting stolen, you’ll never really stop it short of never parking your bike in a public place. As long as motorbikes can be lifted up and put in the back of vans, all the trackers and locks in the world won’t stop this from happening. I’m not sure about figures but I’d guess that the majority of motorbikes that are stolen aren’t secured with anything more than the steering lock This isn’t down to the bike industry to sort, it’s down to the owner.
The other thing that would stop bikes being stolen is there being no market for stolen bikes. You only need to look at the recent raid at Brands Hatch to see how many stolen bikes are racing: http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic792561-58-1.aspx#bm792771
Again, this isn’t down to the bike industry but the owners who bought the stolen bikes and possibly the ACU for not checking race bikes properly.
