Any advice on this one, going to try and take this in Feb…? I am just having some driving lessons with a mate, I can do all the major stuff no problem, but anyone got any gotchas?
might have a few specifics if anyone is interested in answering…

Unless your mate is an up to date instructor I suggest a few ‘proper’ lessons. Dee just took her test & it is different to how Grim & I were taught
Happy to answer what/were I can Ian but as Debz has said might be worth having some time with a qualified instructor just to be on the safe side…
Might do, but they cost an arm and a leg, quite a bit of stuff on the internet about it though…
Is your licence safe then matey? A ban on a bike is a ban on a car also isnt it?
Will answer your questions if I can. Feel free to ask.
I’d really recommend a qualified instructor. Instructors are usually bang up-to-date with the tricky questions and requirements.
I’ve just taken my bike test after having a car licence for 25 years and there’s loads that I didn’t know. I wouldn’t have got through without an instructor. I’d say they’re worth the money.
They’ve got tarmac and roundabouts and traffic lights and everyfin’ now ;)![]()

Best tip is ask around as to where is a good place to take your test. In my case i found that me and all my mates failed taking our test in Leicester as the examiners were strict and the roads were complicated and busy. We all took our test then in a town called Hinckley (where Triumphs are made!) and all passed 1st time and i’d only had a lesson before the test there.
So in my experience ask about…i know it all sounds so wrong but i reckon taking your test in a small town etc is a lot easier than in a city. I’d imagine London you get stuck in a jam for half of it though so i may be wrong!

Cheers guys, I was thinkign about booking my test in Wanstead, went there on the weekend (its also close to my mates) and the roads didnt seem too bad…
For bigSV, naah my licence is still in trouble, court date is april 18th, but i have the opportunity now to take the test, and it might look good in court to say that I passed my car test (with the caveat that its the same licence and will get banned as well) to prove I am a decent enough driver for that…
Will try and get an instructor, I had one a few years back for a few lessons, but he made me so paranoid about doing everything I think he was just trying to milk lessons out of me, I have done more with my mate in 4 lessons that in double that with the instructor…
The driving part of your car test will last about 40 minutes. Throughout the practical test your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the set exercises. You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the practical test.
