Have a rootle about on line*, there’s help out there for most cars particularly if their popular with fresh (aka young) drivers as upgrading the audio is almost obligatory for street cred.
There are a couple of sites dedicated to the audio makers products, e.g. Blaupunkt (bluespot), Kenwood and Clarion that can be pretty good and they also sell those odd little bits for that you can’t get in Halfords like the unique plugs that some makers use, wiring harness adapters and so on.
The biggest problem can be getting at the back of the radio, sorry, head unit as they are more and more commonly being integrated into the dash/consol and can get put in quite early in the cars build. One car I had, I kid you not, you started by removing the sun visors so you could remove the cant rail trim, followed by the A post trims so you could release the entire dash assembly. Got a Haynes manual for the car?
The speakers themselves are easy. Some cars have universal wiring harnesses so the rear speaker wiring may already be mainly in place. If not, getting the two new twin core lines through neatly takes a bit of care as you’ll need to work out how and then, again, you may need to take other bits apart to release trims or get under carpets and sound deadening felt and the like.
It’s not very technical, but it can take all day to do a decent job. Just be properly prepared before you start with all the info to hand.
cheers m8.
Most speaker manufacturers make custom fit speakers, you may be lucky and have the wiring there already!!
If you’re close by maybe I could help you out with fitting.
what kinda car is it?
head units are very easy to take out on most cars (always found bmws a pain in the ass though)
speakers are easy to fit, and you only have positive and negative, so nothing really complicated as was mentioned, biggest pain is taking apart the trim in the car to route the wires to the back
also, most cars will have plastic grille covers in the back somewhere, either in panels nxt to passenger seat/rear doors, or next to rear parcel shelf. if you measure the opening, they are usually standard off the shelf sizes that can be bought from halfords
its a 99 fiesta zetec radio will come out easy enough if i get the prongy bits.
got the grills there for speakers next to parcel shelf, looks best bet to get the adaptors and fit afermarket speakers, no wire there at all dont know wots behind radio though.
