Camber Sands Run

I decide to go for a lunchtime run to camber sands in order to test out my suspension settings. I need to firm up the front since it never really felt planted when you flick the bike

If you stopped moving around on the bike, and selected the right gear for the corner it would give you a much more stable ride.

Yeah… I suppose I was wrestling the bike. It doesn’t really look smooth to be honest… and i REALLY need to get out of the habit of riding twisted.

However, after my commute to work today (which puts me pretty much near camber) I’ve found that there was way too much suspension movement on the front for my liking. It was set too soft so I had to wrestle the bike… hence the frequent gear changes. Stiffened the preload settings and now it sits fine.

I used to remember the blade as tracking like it was on rails but in that video it felt vague. I’ve been noticing it a bit when navigating roundabouts and it feels like the front is trying to tuck. I think I’ve put it down to the wavy brakes since there’s less rotational mass; i didn’t adjust the front to compensate for it. Needless to say, I’ve got it sorted so it’s handling how it should. (I was thinking that it was a rear suspension issue!)

Thats a quailty sig you got there Mate

I’ve managed to sort the suspension out now - dialing in more rebound and compression at the front. It doesn’t dive as much under braking and feels more planted on sweepers and roundabouts.

Does anybody know of any suspension specialists in london where they can rebuild my rear showa (planning to get it serviced since historically, my rears tend to lose all manner of damping by 30k miles. It probably wouldn’t hurt to get the front fork oil changed and have the preload set up correctly.

I use PDQ in Taplow. http://www.pdq1.co.uk/
