l am about to go and buy a bike from gumtree guy
lve checked HPI and its fine
problem:
he lives in sleepy surrey area / got address /checked google street view its a 100% residential area only
me and my mate will go there tomorrow
take cash in hand (so l can pick the bike and take it back with me - much quicker than money transfer )
l heard some stories how people got robbed and what not after showing up for fake ads
l am bit concerned now
is it better to meet up on some natural ground you think? or wait and just give him small deposit and rest to account ?
any tips on buying from private guys ???
I’d say if you’re worried then maybe leave the money in your account and go look at the bike. Then, if you like it and haven’t been mugged, pop to a cash point to get the money.

what I did with my first bike purchase, I took my HSBC safe key and just transferred the money into his account there and then…
not everyone will be open to that as they may think it’s a scam but it’s an option?
