I know there’s been threads before but I haven’t seen one recently. So who uses what and approximate cost?
I’m with the RAC at the moment and got cover for any vehicle I’m in, just wondering what others do.

I was with the RAC
I’ve got the same sort of RAC cover. They seem fine, in that they tend to turn up and take me home. I’ve had a couple of problems, but I think you get that with all of them.
Apparently they’re pretty bad at passing on information to recovery drivers, but the drivers that I’ve spoken to reckon the AA are about as bad and it’s only Britannia (I think) who manage to get it right generally. Either way, though, you just end up talking to the actual driver in the end and can tell him where you are.
Rusty have you been recovered by AutoAid, how quickly did they reimburse you?
Also what was the initial outlay in costs.
I used to have it on my insurance, no idea of costs now… Used them for punctures and flat batteries. I can’t complain much. Wait times if anything.
I’ve the same RAC one. thank you for reminding me it’ll renew next month
I have the AA through my bank account. Works well. Also have phone insurance and other things. It’s payed for itself a few times over.
I arrange European cover through the insurance company.
For the bike I have Swinton Breakdown and recovery cover which is £7.25 per month Europe wide. I got this originally when I was insured with Swinton. I’m no longer insured with them but their recovery department is separate so I’ve kept it on. I’ve not used it yet thankfully.
With the car I’ve Europe wide breakdown and recovery with Admiral. I can’t remember how much extra that was but it’s not much. I’ve used it twice, flat tyre where I couldn’t remove the wheel and a battery problem. Both times the service was really good.
AA + European Cover
I’ve got the RAC cover for vehicle. I usually flip flop between them and AA as they have same price for the same requirement, round about £120/ year for any vehicle, national recovery and home assistance.
They did hike the price up on renewal but when I phoned they put it down to the original price
They’ve been out and helpful a couple of times in the past. only used them once this year and was OK. As BRS said they are not very good at passing details onto drivers as I had told them there was a clutch issue and nothing they could do but still insisted on sending a van. Van driver wasn’t happy and started having a go at me but once he listened he understood they had fucked up. However I was able to book for next day morning to take me to mechanic (although pickup was a local company and was late - apparently RAC sent details late).
I have bog standard RAC cover with my insurance - they repaired a puncture last week about 10 minutes after I called them. The guy was actually so quick that I was still on site when he arrived so he just got security to let him in and he was pretty much done by the time I got there.
I got recovered by one of their vehicles for a knackered chain a few months back and the recovery van took aaaaaages to turn up but I guess that’s the problem with breaking down at rush hour
I have AutoAid. I’ve only had to use them once, after I was caught with a puncture and no repair kit. Quick service, no problems. Well worth the money.
RAC with Tesco clubcard points. It’s £70 for joint membership for the top of the range package.

nivag
I have it through my insurance company. fiik what it cost tbh. I know when I had a puncture we fixed it ourselves before any sign of the fookers turning up.
AA, picked me up within half an hour after my puncture, plus I think most of the patrol vans in the London area have the bike trailer transformers in their kit as standard now. Not ideal if you’re elsewhere granted.
The only issues I’ve ever had with the AA was with my old mini, when they used to pass me on to local sub-contracters who were useless.
That’s good to know regarding the claiming.
has anyone gota bike cover with Greenflag? Can’t even get a quote from them as it doesn’t recognise my number plate https://www.greenflag.com/breakdown-cover/motorbike
I used comparison websites (same as for insurance) to find a breakdown service for me. Went with the one Rusty mentioned in his first post.
