Brake pad retaining pins fused to caliper body

This is not tattifilarious!! :crazy::hehe:

It’s caliper rebuild time and the pins appear to have become (like everything else on this effing bike) fused to the caliper body. I’ve tried wrenching them out with pliers but they are stuck good an proper - covered them in WD-40 last night but hasn’t loosened them.

Should I bang em with a hammer - but not too hard so they don’t bend - or find someone with a blow torch to heat em out? Thanks in advance for any advice people. :cool:

New hagon shock - notice lack of carpets - guess where the carpet money went? :smiley:

bevery careful about using heat as it can damage the calipers not sure what you are trying to achieve are you replacing the seals if so why do you have to remove the pins (by the way its not that clear from the pics what pin we are talking about)

It’s a complete rebuild Wiggle so I’m replacing the seals - after I get the pins out by whatever method. The pins are the pad retaining pins sticking out of the top of the caliper in the pic - ordinarily they should come out so you can remove the pads - they are well and truly fused though.

A bit of net surfing talks of people cutting them off flush and then drilling out so you can stick a new pin in - I don’t want to have to attempt that!

Now if you were Terry-moto you’d ride it as it is :stuck_out_tongue: in fact, your bike looks in better nick than his anyways :laugh:

Ha ha! :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll just stick a spotlight on the front and it’s sorted! (even though it’s got no brakes! :w00t: )I’ve just got one out with a hammer - but the two sticking out of the rear caliper are right buggers - not suprising as the rear caliper is underslung and is totally exposed to salt/water coming off the road.

I GOT EM OUT - LOT’S OF BANGING WITH THE HAMMER - WD-40 AND ROTATING THEM WITH PLIERS.

WANT TO GET THIS BIKE FINISHED AS SOON AS POSS AS ONLY HAVE A FEW DAYS FREE. :smiley:

Was just about to say use a 6mm bolt to hit em out with but you done it allready well done

Cheers wiggle - I’m restoring this bike to usability after it was neglected - every ‘straightforward’ job just snowballs into a tsunami of rounded of and seized bolts etc. . . :rolleyes::smiley:

I’m surprised the picture of Ken Dodd didn’t melt them :smiley:

Sorry, I can’t help mate…Would have thought soaking them in some form of spirit would do the trick.

Thanks Afro - by the way I’m trying some of this on my exup - it’s che3aper than the other stuff I flagged up.

£121,000 to fly a Guantanamo Bay detainee home…Fuggin Outrageous:D

Whats the paper clip for?:cool:

Ha ha! :smiley: - I threaded the paper-clip in the hole in the end of the pad retaining pin (the one which the little r-clip goes into to stop the pin falling out) to try and twist the retaining pin around in the hole to get it out - eventually it worked!:stuck_out_tongue:
