Not all scooters are bad riders (just like not all bikers are good riders), but a significant proportion are, in my opinion (no lifesaver, no indication, not stopping for zebra crossings etc).

I understand and agree with you BB, but then so did powerpuffgirl…LB is LB, everyone and everything, take it easy.
She did say “Not all scooters are bad riders, but a significant proportion are” which is a fair comment. And by far i see a lot more scooters with L plates than with out.
Having done a cbt, I was suprised but the lack of training you are aloud out on the road with. Maybe ok if you have already done another test (car for example) and have picked up a bit of expirience but by it self I think it should be tougher.
But back on topic well done boris for letting bikes in bus lanes (and ‘cr@p scooter riders’ too ;))
Always makes me smile when the traffic is backed up and I’m cruising past on a bus lane out of restriction. Just proves that people do not look at street signs.
I can’t help thinking this is caused by the confusion of which one’s we can use and which one’s we can’t, and when?!?
I’ve been in London almost a year now and I still get totally confused as to which bus lanes I can use and which one’s I can’t?!? I don’t want to get fined/nicked for using the one’s that I shouldn’t. If we are allowed in all of them with no risk of penalty then the confusion will be gone and more people will make use of them.
A lot of people do read the signs, but from experieince, it is no fun going down an unrestricted bus lane in a car swerving round the parked cars, watching for idiots who turn left across the bus lane without looking etc. It is often less hassle to simply move along in the stream of cars. Just bacause the bus lane is open doesn’t mean you can legally overtake a moving vehicle on the left BTW. it is jsut anotherl ane of traffic and not a priority lane, so if the cars are moving there is no beenfit in usign the bus lane.
Excellent news. Must admit I wasn’t expecting to see a policy statement so soon. Lets just hope it goes through in the near future.
Can’t believe this thread has started regurgitating the old scooter/bike debate. Come on guys scooters are great bikes are great even cycles are great (in their place;)), its a lovely sunny day etc etc.
I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again; you should not be allowed out on the streets of London without a proper test ie a license. Now wait for 100 posts slating me telling me what great riders learners are.
By the way I respect scooter riders who HAVE passed their test. I see nothing wrong with scooters. I DO wish that some scooter types didn’t constantly feel like they had something to prove though…always trying to race me; storming past at 45 in a 30 zone, only for them to hold me up cos they can’t filter very well. If I see a scooter, I’m often keen to just get past it for this reason.
Pretty much why I’ve never understood the great desire to use the bus lanes. Just always seems too risky and whenever I have used them, they often contain a rippled surface and diesil spilt from heavy vehicles.
Why would you wanna subject yourself to this and the hazard of a dozy driver pulling out on you, with you wedged between it and other traffic so you have nowhere to go?
