Bo Jo Bus Lanes

Part of the mayors manifesto for election was opening bus lanes to bikers. I’ve heard nothing since but am using the lanes fairly regularly.

I was just wondering if anybody has been has been ‘camera’d’ since the election or whether there’s an unsaid amnesty out here?

Let us know when you find out.

I’m gonna get flamed for getting involved in this considering I was so anti-BoJo or Bodger as I think he should be known, but I did see Evening Standard boards saying Bikers to Use Buslanes yesterday… coudln’t find anything to corroborate online though as I didn’t actually buy the paper…Come on, its the s0dding Daily Mail in disguise, I wouldn’t wipe your bum with it, let alone give someone money for a copy…

…Now where did I put my matches…

I’ve got a lighter handy just in case… I know when I’m beat fella

good job petrols so exspensive then toby you could be safe, no burning at the stake

You see Tobby, where you got it wrong is when you forgot about the most loved US president of all time… Ronald!

As the guy did not have a clue, but still wanted to do well, he listen to his advisors. Unlike Ken that have report re-written to fit the the choice he made before ordering the study…

That said, I loved and still do the congestion charge, I am all for the low emission zone… Just because it reduce the number of cage and truck in London…

Not too happy about the lack of motorcycle bay but what the hell… Can’t have it all!

Reddog… thats a pretty risky move your making, but we’d be nowhere without pioneres!

As for Bus lanes, I cant wait myself… so Boris, if your advisors are reading this… get a wriggle on

Does anyone thing we can we get him to make a concerted push for the ‘spills kill’ campaign, so our newly found road space isnt a deathtrap in the wet??..

He should be back from holiday by now, let’s get him while he is still in a good mood

Perhaps we should wait untiol we HAVE our road space before point out its possible pitfalls… that might just be enough to sway a flip flopping borris brain!

Agreed:blush:

Thanks Il Bandito and glad you respect my daredevil behaviour…

Seriously though I’ve still not got a ticket in the post, has anybody else? Maybe they are turning a blind eye?

From TFL website - 03-06… would rather not trust rags on this one…

Bus lane enforcementWhy can’t motorcycles travel in bus lanes during hours of operation? The reason for this follows the publication of a report by our Road Safety Unit which analysed the safety effects of allowing motorcyclists in bus lanes. It showed no clear evidence of safety benefits to motorcyclists and potential disadvantages to pedestrians and cyclists. The safety of all road users is a top priority for TfL. We undertook this trial to see if we could improve road safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

I’ve commuted on my bike, most days for 15 years (possibly more - given up counting), and although I use the bus lanes I have never received a fine, so it’s well possible to use them judiciously, without getting nabbed. I was pro allowing us to use Bus Lanes but I am worried if there’s a lot of publicity about Bus Lanes for bikes and scooters we’ll just increase the numbers - sorry, selfish I know.

Lawro - be careful mate. TFL have now been given authority to use CCTV to enforce PCN’s and this is now generating massive income for them. It is only a matter of time until CCTV are installed on your commute route and you’ll be getting fines too. They’ve kept it hush because of the massive amount of funds being generated.

check this out.

I work in IT for TfL. There is a large building rammed with people who sit and look at CCTV all day looking for naughty vehicles to ticket in the post.

My understanding is that Boris has instructed TFL to draw up plans to allow PTWs to use bus lanes. This has caused shrieks of protest from the cycling organisations who are busy collecting petitions.

One of the good things about Boris is that he might just make up his own mind and tell the cycling orgs to get a life.

Fantastic - any chance of insider info on progress in TfL allowing us into the bus lanes? Presumably it’s just a matter of changing a few signs…

Well firstly remember this is government - we have discussions to have, boxes to tick and forms to fill in you know! :PSeriously tho, I suspect there will need to be some discussions with the boroughs on this, and it may even go to an official consultation if there’s a lot of opposition being voiced. And then there’s changing the signs, etc ;)So I’d have thought we’re talking a few months at least unfortunately! Will see what i can find out tho…
