As they state they have re tuned it for low down and mid range power, something you can use more on a naked and not the want for sports bikes.
I think the sports bike market is a dying one and the naked/street bike is building up momentum.

Torque is what really counts for me… butterflies in the stomach if you know what I mean!
High speed is good too, but on my old Monster 696 at 110 mph I was feeling like going crazy fast anyway
Stupid iPad… Grrrrr…
Torque is great on a bike but you also need power to match it or it’s like a bloody diesel. Bmw’s 160bhp is probably around the 140-145bhp at the wheel power which is inadequate by modern standards.
Remember, the types of people that are going to be spending this type of money on a 1000cc naked are probably going to be experienced riders and possibly have ridden 1000cc sport bikes and this might make the naked bike “underwhelming”
Look, I could be wrong as well. My riding experience is from both sides of the fence. I’ve only owned 2 bikes.
Both detuned nakeds.
My 95rwhp gsr was REALLY good fun to ride but after a year I wanted more power as it wasn’t enough. The King has the power that I like but finding the space to use it is near impossible and I find myself using the torque to ride at low revs as I’m getting bored and just want to unleash it. Maybe a track day will cure this predicament.
Perhaps 140rwhp is the best amount of power for ANY bike these days on our roads. I just don’t like the fact that the market for nakeds are superior to sportbikes these days but we get the short end of the parts and engine range.
Sportbikes and nakeds share the same predicament on the roads but it’s deemed acceptable for them to get the power…
Anyhow, how about LB gets me a test ride day on the s1k and I’ll do a review
I understand your point… but one thing is to reshape the engine in order to get smoother response or more low grunt and another thing is simply detuning it.
I must think that naked bikes are not really projected to go crazy fast as they don’t even have the wind protection for certain speeds… also, with taller handlebars maybe it isn’t very appropriate… I guess in a way is common sense!
(but at that point they are ignoring the need of mad people like us :D)
Someone gets my madness!! ![]()
Naked bike riders give the 2 fingered salute to the rest
we just like to do it fast! ![]()
