Ladies and Gents,
i have recently obtained a Garmin Zumo 550.
i am looking for a decent bluetooth headset for use with the twat nav and the mobile phone,
i cannot keep a cyborg looking headset on my ear whilst putting my helmet on.
i was looking at a scala rider thingy,
any ideas.
I’ve got the scala q2 headset and I think its ok. The radio is crap, but the mobile reception is excellent and the battery lasts forever. I think I charge it every couple of weeks. It clips in easily to the bracket/boom and is very easy to install with no wires showing. You can easily be heard 100mph+ but forget trying to hear anything over 70mph. The radio is extremely loud and can be heard at very low volume as it is being supplied by the unit itself and not having to go via bluetooth. Havent tried to pair it to other scala’s (cue MacP…) but I assume it’ll be ok.
Tend to lose the pairing to my phone every now and again, but takes just a few seconds to re-establish. Could just be my phone? (xda orbit 2)
you can also buy an mp3 boom (£30 or so) which comes with a 3.5 to 2mm jack supplied. You can now hard wire your MP3’s and sat navs. Problem is that you have to turn them down because they will NOT automatically cancel when a call comes in… yes, pretty crap in my opinion, so I dont use it! lol
Hope this helps? :ermm:
ps. Helmet wont sit straight on a flat surface once installed, and you can catch your ear if you don’t watch out! Mine’s installed on an Arai RX7 and it fits fine…
A mate of mine just got himself a Parrot SK4000 and he’s really happy with it.
Quite like the fact that it comes with a handlebar controller that lets you answer calls, change tracks on MP3 etc… Just over £100 apparently. edit: Cheaper to buy new on ebay than from Parrott website.

cheers gents ,top notch, its good to read a decent review instead of the garb they publish on their websites.
Jimbo
As Yam say’s, check out the parrot. It is a little ugly as part of it fits onto the outside of the helmet, however, its a great bit of kit and is fit for purpose. (made for motorcycle helmets) Although I don’t think your be able to take this back to Carphone whorehouse !!

will do mate, i am still fuming about the pricks that work in there.
How does that Parrot one work? It looks like everything is outside the helmet? Surely at 60mph that mic will just pick up wind, not your voice?
A long while ago I got 2 Interphone BT units so I could chat with my pillian -
It works great, the BT unit sits outside, but the mic and speaker fit inside the helmet. Very good.
Id recommend the Midland BT2 bluetooth headset, Retails @ £130 but works very well in excess of 70+ mph and amplifies everythings its paired to.
Interior fitting is nice and neat and the main control unit that secures to the side of the helmet works very well with your gloves on.
Worth a look
The parrot one works with a boom mike. There is a smal box on the outside of the helmet which contains the tech and the boom mike comes out of that and underneath the helmet.
I saw the prototype kit at a gadget show and to be honest, its gonna be the best bit of kit out there for the next couple of years.
Hope that helps
