Yes, the sun is shining. Yes, I pick up my new bike tomorrow. Yes, England won last night, in part thanks to our wonder boy Aaron Lennon.
However on my way in to work I came across the aftermath of two bike accidents, ambulance and Police already in attendance, in both cases I could see the riders lying on the floor, but not much else. One was on the way through Regents Park, the other on Commerical Road, near Canary Wharf. Really upsets me when I see fellow riders down and why does it always seem to be bikes? I don’t wish an accident on anyone, but considering the level of riding I see from commuter scooters wearing nothing more than a lid and their work-suit, it amazes me that if I ever have come across an accident involving a two wheeler, the poor sod lying on the floor tends to be a biker and not a scooterist. Are we actually worse riders than the ped boys n girls? Are we less lucky? I know for sure we don’t take more risks, the ped’ers who often ride so recklessly it is quite frightening. I can only imagine it is because we are faster and therefore appear at the wrong place at the wrong time, much quicker than the scooters.
My hayfever also made sure I had a sneeze-fest on the way into work and I also discovered a hole in the index finger of my left GP-Pro glove…
Still on the bright side, today is my last in the office before a weeks holiday with my family and I’ll have the keys to my nice shiny Blade in my sweaty paw tomorrow lunchtime…I’ll be taking it very steady on my new tyres, don’t want to luzz it down the road just before I go away.
So if you see a fella in the Herts area wobbling round on a silver/red/purple 06 reg Blade, give us a hoot n a wave
Absolutely…I agree, I don’t like to see ANY two-wheeler and it’s rider on the deck. It just strikes me that 9 times out of 10 when I have come across this terrible sight the person on the floor was riding a motorbike and not a twist and go. Which surprises me, because IMO the standard riding displaying by many scooterists is bordering on suicidal. Whereas generally I find motorcyclists take their riding and safety a little more seriously.
I just guess that it is perhaps speed and power that put us in harms way more often than other two-wheelers.
Waxy I saw that too (the one on Commercial Road). not the accident itself but the police and medics tending to the poor bloke on the stretcher. Were you one of the bikes queuing as the police were holding everyone until it had cleared? That really made me slow down and I poodled in slowly for the rest of the way.
Yes, I pray that they will be ok…and I pray that we all remain safe, personally I have two beautiful boys and a wonderful wife and I want to be able to go home to them every night in one piece.
Nope I wasn’t held up by the Police, I was heading in the opposite direction towards Canary Wharf.
I saw one fella sat on the island and the other poor fella lying on the floor between the two parts of the island. I couldn’t tell what had happened…
The other one in Regents Park didn’t look to good either, bike was on it’s side up on the pavement and there was a car stopped as well.
I’m really REALLY sorry to put a downer on everyones sunny Friday morning, but if I tell my (non-biking) colleagues what I had seen this morning it barely registers with them, but I know my fellow bikers will understand how you feel when you see something like this.

We are going to Ibiza, which I would like to state now was NOT my choice of resort. My in-laws go to the same apartments EVERY year and wanted us to come out with them and after they paid for our flights I couldn’t really say “Actually I’d rather not go to Ibiza, I’m a snob you see.”
I have been intending to get Cubana for weeks, especially since I met some of you folks at the Ace…but work 'n stuff has conspired against me…I WILL get down at some point though I promise.
Statistcially bikers (can’t remember the exact figures) make up the vast majority of KSIs in London. Strange as you would have thought that scooters would be up there but they’re not.
