OK, been around bikes since I was about 16, both hubby (then my bf obviously) and his best mate had bikes starting off with a DT125LC. I tried to get on it and hold it up ONCE and only once, but being only a small framed 5’2 i just couldnt hold it up cos i couldnt reach the floor on both sides by a LONG way. It put me off completely from trying anything else.
What Id like to know is what on earth you vertically challenged people ride?? I know there are some girls (and maybe guys) on here the same height as me and I just admire them so much from being able to ride.
Id love to have lessons on something I could handle, but think it would have to be in the middle of a field cos i know I would drop it from sheer lack of confidence!
I have the other problem of being very very tall and I look all legs on any sports bike I seem to ride hence me having a super moto (saying that hopefully getting a new blade this year), I know alot of ladies that struggle getting a bike to fit… The quack Z750 is quite a small bike not engine size before you think I am being rude, its a bike I wanted but the leggy thing came into play again and I believe they can be lowered also the SV650 is very popular with ladies although this is a twin and can be tricky to master (once mastered nothing is impossible to ride) and I know this can definitely be lowered. Also the Honda CBF600 has a seat you can raise and lower… You really want something you wont get bored of. As for having lessons contact a few riding places and ask them what they suggest, if they cant help then to be honest they are more interested in the colour of your money than actually trying to help someone start to ride…
I’m 5ft 2 (but only just) and I have a bog standard yam dragstar which has a very low seat (I nearly pushed it over by straightening my leg the first time I stopped on the test ride) and a honda vfr400r (nc30) which also has a standard height seat.
Both of these bikes are great for shortarses.
I used to have a gpz500 with a scooped seat and that was fine height wise too.
There you go - a choice of commuter bike, cruiser or baby sports…
Ha ha, Joolz, someone a bit more sensible and with a whole lot more knowledge of bikes than I, will answer this for you.
Do you like cruisers ? As already mentioned they all have a low seat height and most look good as well … more so with a lady rider !
A load of sports bikes can be lowered too … I remember ages ago at work, we pulled up at a set of lights and this very pretty petite girl was on a Ducati, she was tiny and I asked if she’d had it lowered, she gave me a right filthy look and said “no, why” … as I was still mumbling an excuse for asking she took off, I think I annoyed her a bit ! I was only asking !!
Good luck with your hunt for one, I’m sure you’ll find a bike you like.
My Mrs always complains that her SV is way too low, she is 5’8" but does have very long legs . If you want a 125 I am sure the van van is quite low. Not being rude but Abbey is not that tall and she has a Hornet so ask her if she has had any mods done to it.
F1 International do a range of lowering kits (and appear to be the market leaders), some just change the rear suspension linkages whilst others also replace the rear shock.
I looked into them quite a bit but found that at 5ft2 the kits wouldn’t lower the bikes I was looking at enough for me to be comfortable and get both feet on the ground (not even tip toes).
I’ve heard varying opinions on the kits, from people loving them cos they can get on a bigger bike, to those who say they mess up the handling as the balance of the bike is completely changed.
The picture is an example of what they look like made up…(i think though, that you still would want a full size motorcycle!!) I took this in Charlotte USA in a Harley weeknd show… and the sound…sounded like a true Harley!!!
Oh, and trying to answer the question, can Trojan run faster…
It will depend on how fast madscientist can make her legs go, in comparison to Trojan moving his mass!!!
A mate of mine if 5’2" She runs a fazer 600. the older Fazer (upto non underseat exhaust) has a monster seta that you can cut down, you loose a ver little comfort, but makes it very ridable for vertically challanged people…
