There is an arbitary line drawn around Parliament (by a random judge)within which all collective assemblies are illegal unless sanctioned by the Met Police.
If they don’t use that legislation, the anti terrorism laws will work just fine.
Put on a full face helmet and you could be charged with concealing your identity from law enforcement officers, (and others, but that gets too incredible) being part of an organised conspiracy against the state, and so on.
If it’s going to be done it needs maximum impact, maximum exposure, maximum support from the media with minimal risk of over reaction from the establishment.
Somewhere like Park Lane and each end?
If not parliament square then strategic areas to cause maximum disturbance, parklane is too easy to avoid, maybe groups at lambeth bridge north side, westminster bridge south side, victoria/vauxhall bridge road one way and trafalgar square. just ride around and around the roundabouts and one way system, this will block all traffic around parliament square and have the same effect without contravening the law.
The problem I’m having with all of this is that is the government of the day we need to inconveniece, not the public. We need their support.
Any ideas on targets, outside the Parliamentry cordon that make life inconvenient for our elected government “representatives”?
Hi Tobi,
Just a participant, but - I’m keen to get stuck in and help organise the next one, I feel that the marshals of this one did an OK job - but they were too cooperative with the police for my liking, not that I’m an anarchist - but the police were keen on “minimising disruption” … that’s kindof not the point about the protest!
Some of the papers have made reference to the police stopping truckers that were supporting us, and cautioning them for driving “unacceptably slowly” – also, on the quiet - we saw a lot of the police threatening truckers with lenghty investigations if they were found at another protest about fuel in the next 12 months, and photographing their trucks, and tacho-license things
I think people are starting to get a bit carried away now!
Blocking Park Lane? Probably not a great idea, due to the fact that you would just get done for traffic offenses!
I don’t see how they could use the Anti-Terror Act against us for riding around Parliament Square?
I was all for a nice, peaceful protest ride around the square. Anything like that would draw a few journalists, which then gives it media coverage etc… It’s not so much about disruption, it’s more about getting noticed for making a statement! I’m no anarchist, so anything designed to disrupt or cause a nuisance is not for me thanks. Although, good luck to anybody willing to do some of those idea’s…
What do our resident boys in blue think? Is there cause to use anti-terrorism laws for peaceful protest?
I would give my support but i think that we should get support from all sides (taxis lorrys car drivers and anyone else that is prepared to speak out) and it should be done at various points across the country at the same time maybe organize one at the weekend to show them the strenght of our protest then if that has no effect then hit them when it it hurts most, the french and spanish can do it so why cant we. Only when it starts to affect the people at the top will they listen.
