Biker Down-A3

On the way to work this morning just before 9 just after the Coombe lane junction, looked like a RS 125/250 smashed to bits up against the armco and rider lying in the load on the white line between lanes 2 and 3. Thankfully the guy was conscious and moving albeit looking rather dazed and several bikes had stopped behind and blocked the traffic. Looked like they had everything under control so I didn’t stop at the time but i can’t believe that not even 1 car driver would stop and put their hazards on in the outside lane to protect the people trying to help.

Hope the rider was ok, pretty fast stretch of road to come off especially in rush hour traffic.

Must of been right behind me, I didn’t see anything.

Hope he’s OK. That’s really poor of the car drivers, but you don’t have to wait long for another bike.

Wonder what happened.

I saw him standing talking to the plod when I passed him. His kit looked a bit ragged, but he was on his feet talking, so I assume he’s in reasonable condition.
The ambulance was still in lane 3 and the plod had put out cones, closing off 2 and 3.
The bike looked like it had been rolled under something and there was a white van parked up 50 yards further up the road.

I thought it was a bloke I sometimes have a bit of sport with on a Milli (as reported in another post), but I was wrong I see.

Blimey, that was obviously just after I went through too. Poor chappy.

Mild highjack:
I realised I’d missed out on the meet last night - when I got home, but do any of the A3ers fancy meeting up in the BP garage on the left there for a coffee some morning (just so I know who I’m pissing off with my crap riding)?

Yep, I’d be up for that!

I tend to use the A3 in the opposite direction in the evenings and the A24 in the mornings, but the coffee idea sounds fun.

However I know that bit of road well, and for decades it has been very dangerous with many accidents. Vehicles in both directions pull onto the A3 at Coombe Lane without any regard for what is coming along. The layout of the junctions along the A3 Kingston Bypass hasn’t changed much since the early 60’s when it was four lane, except there used to be a proper roundabout where the New Malden underpass is now!

That roundabout was fun in the days when the A3 was national speed limit, I can tell you!

Yup,

Was thinking of putting up an A3 posse? post on the strength of the replies, but it looks as if this one will do.

8:30 - 8:45 tomorrow, Friday? anyone? or other suggestions.

Thought it was Esso? Too expensive for me so I wouldn’t know But I’m sure I know the one you mean.

I can do tomorrow morning at about 8:30 [yawn and rubs eyes].

I agree, I think Esso as well, near the Wimbles turn off?

It is an Esso garage - it’s twin is derelict on the otherside of the road.

Even more annoyed at not having a bike at the moment as I would have been up for this - even though the time mentioned by Lusty is late morning for some people!!!

Up and running for a while now - you really need to get back on a bike!

Esso / BP / Texaco they are all greedy buggers (but I’d rather their stuff than Tesco’s own syrup).

I’m up for either morning.

Might be worth starting up a new Posse thread as not everyone will have read this one. Just my 2p.

Well start a rideouts thread then

I’m shy and boring, no one will come.

Well maybe it’s time to get out more

Go on, post up. You know you want to.

I was up and down there three or four times today and saw not a sausage. Maybe thats a good thing? Its SUCH a scary off ramp. I have seen so many accidents there. The last bloke I helped (on a Vespa, or maybe that should be off) bled and snotted all over my mobile phoning his mum while waiting for the 'bulance.
Would def be up for an early morning cuppa although it does have a ring of ‘Allan Partridge’ about it dont you think? I live less than a mile away. I might walk there…
Rideout sounds like fun. How do I sign up (a bit new here)?

I noticed Roehampton was closed at the junction with the A3 at 4.30, and still is closed - apparently there has been a nasty accident down there. It is a grim day what with that and the police tape I had to ride under to get into my office car park this morning - the police kindly held it up for me and said it was OK to go through as long as I rode on the pavement and made sure I rode round and not through the blood! Not sure it was a jumper or they were pushed.

Right, I’m off out on the sherries now. See some of you tomorrow morning at 8:30-8:45am

Laters taters

Normaly Jackie and I are the other side of Clapham by 8.30 - We might be along if we get up late and take the diversion to the other side of Raynes Park.

As for the road closure I mentioned, I see that five hours aftre I passed Roehampton on the A3 the BBC are still showing the road as closed. Any idea what has happened? Looks like it might be something nasty.
