WTF ?? Well let me explain, last night me and the Mrs flying along the motorway and two cars nearly took us out , one just not having any road craft and another trying to read a gps and both times I backed off and gave them a bit of space and both times I used it ( and the finger ). But then there are the time in traffic and you know some Muppet is going to walk out from behind a bus and sure enough they do…
Last night in all we had 2 motorway Muppets, a blind pedestrian ( not literally ) and some monkey pull out from a side turning… I swear they were all out, but I was trying to explain to Dawn that you can look at a car and you just “know” they are going to do something stupid …
Is it just decent road craft or are do you put it down to being more alert ?
Yes! I agree, I think we can have a sixth-sense, I can recall a number of situations where I’ve felt it’s not safe to continue at the current pace, or have thought ‘a cop would sit there’, and they have. You need your witts about you to stay sticky-side-down in London. Glad you’re both okay.
Incidentally, I saw Bike mag this month, with the T675 pull-out… wow, I want one. Shame it’s not on the cards though. I can’t wait to see yours!
I know what you mean. I think the brain is able to recognise situations you have encountered previously and remembers them. For example you instintively recognise the signs when someone is about to pull out from when it has happened before. Just look on there face, the direction they are looking in, body language etc. Scary isn’t it and can’t explain it properly. I also think it has something to do with the fact that on a bike it’s your life people are playing with so you tend to concentrate and observe a lot more.
defensive riding-, i get that feeling too when you think…‘wtf it is it with these people?’. every day there’s always, without fail, some w****r not paying attention, & the cheek of it most time’s, is that they look and swear at you like it’s all your fault!.
i was some time ago, nearly knocked off on baker street by a police astra with the driver not looking properly while changing lane’s, only to be nudged from behind(rear wheel)by the same cop’ car further up at some traffic light’s!!!-and yet these driver’s are trained further than just by a driving school.
I usually have that sense which warns me of things, shame it did not work last week. Have been saved from impact numerous times due to what is referred to as the extra sense. Round London it is very useful to have it.
Sorry to hear. Hope your sending the bill for new r&g’s to the driver.
I agree about the 6th sense and it gets more finely tuned with experience but even then you just never know whats gonna happen and will you react fast enough.
6th Sense, agree, but I appears that some bikers don’t have any sense…
Have a little story to tell, but I ain’t gonna post it on here that’s for sure; will tell when i next see you guys. It happened not so long ago and involves 2 very very lucky people - not 6th sense but someone was defiantly watching over them…
David, mate… Sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident… Glad your not hurt…
Think it’s a bit of both… I have that 6th sense thingy going on… You can feel it… And, it’s down to experiances and time on the road. Being on a bike requires much more consentration and you look at the road expecting things to happen and your almost ready for it…
Don’t want to hijack this thread, but just to let you all know that I got a call from Norwich Union just now. The guy phoned them up and admitted that it was his fault. They are sending an engineer out to look at my bike asap and will pay for the repairs etc.
Carlsberg don’t do insurance claims… lol
Thumbs up to Norwich Union… They were very accomodating, friendly and helpful! Kind of relieved… All my previous claims have gone on and on for months!
That’s great news David, glad it worked out okay! So go scuff the whole bike up, get some new fairings and come do a trackday with us on the old ones next year
