Bike without steering lock?

Errr, I was looking at a bike recently to buy, however the owner is selling it with the steering lock broken??

Is there any legitimate reason why the steering lock should break? It sounds very suspect, I haven’t viewed the bike yet so don’t know reg. Its being sold on ebay.

Attempted theft could result in the broken lock, recovered from theft could do the same.

I would want the V5 checked carefully though.

Yeah. It must have been nicked, attempted nicked or could a fall cause that? I’m emailing the owner.

Do steering locks have a habbit of breaking? I’ve certainly not heard of it.

A friend of mine had a BMW1200 which got knocked over when it was parked up. That sheared off the steering lock. I think the insurance company wrote it off because to fix the fault it would need a new steering thing. There was nothing wrong with the bike so he just replaced the damaged panels and carried on.

it may not be broke as in the lock bit but may have a prob with the key, is it an old bike?

some seize up and just dont lock on the steer lock option with the key.

but yes questions to the seller will help, get him to get pics of where the steer lock goes into the headstock, you will soon see clear if it was frcably damaged, it will make an odd shape where the lock goes in.

It is an old bike, might not be suspect. I’ll await.

aha might be the case, happens on new bike too if people dont lubricate the lock etc, there always tempremental

I know someone who’s bike has no steering lock or ignition keys!:Whistling:

hmmm for some reason I find this funny…

One quite a few bikes all it is a small lug of on the lower yoke. So basically a small place of alloy. It gets the paint knocked of a bit of corrosion, and hey presto it’s been removed because the owner was ham fisted.

Still it was funny as feck.

Not enough rust mate!
