Bike training in N.London

My 17 year old son has just told me that he intends to buy a motorcycle soon - and as I have a garage full of race and road bikes I can hardly say ‘over my dead body’

But I want him to take the best training possible before he is let out onto the roads. I know I’d like him to do the Bikesafe course at some point (gives me an excuse to do it again ) but before that I think he needs to do some classroom/car park stuff and obviously a CBT.

Can anyone reccommend a company in North London (Bounds Green / Southgate area would be nice) that he can go to?

Many thanks

I used North London Motorcycle Training. They’re in Edgeware, where Rex Judd used to be and their number is 020 8952 9622.

This is just my opinion as I recently used them myself - I would not recommend them. I am not bitter as I passed but not a nice experience I really should put it in the name and shame.

I know that Elite get good reviews - I will be using them for my DAS

I also used North London Motorcycle Training and thought they were good, but I think that had a lot to do with the instructor I had. Some other people there at the same time as me didn’t do as well with other instructors.

John the little chinese guy is the best, but I don’t think he does CBT training, just full licence stuff. I did my CBT with Dougie, the same guy Debz had but seems she got him on a bad day

JT (the poster fromerely known as Triskie) also just passed her full test with them.

CAM Rider in Hendon.

Ask for Richard…Say Eugene sent you.

The facilities & bikes were also having a bad day

Debz personal instructor was Leo who was a good guy but alas is only part time

NLMT…all the way…they really are a class act…Barry, Mick…Quality !!

Thanks everyone, I’ll be checking out your recommendations soon and get the lad safely onto 2 wheels.

DAS is good and you learn a lot, but their main aim is to get you through the test. Bike safe day can be useful I’ve heard, but a Summer of Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) observed runs and eventual test will improve even the most experienced riders. If I had a kid who was getting a bike I’d insist on them joining a local IAM group nd spent a summer with them. Annual membership costs less than 100 pounds - far cheaper than some of the advanced riding tutors out there.

elite motorcycle training, they are great! 0871 52 00052

I used Elite in wembley - H is a very good instructor!

Yup, I would recommend Elite in Wembley. Both H and Nick were good. Did my CBT and DAS with them, from naught to fully licensed in under 2 months.

Another vote for Wembley Elite here - did my DAS with them last year and they were excellent.

I went to the CSMT Central school of Motorcycle Training on the A10 grate cambridge round about. Roger & Pete Run it.

I used them last year to get my licence. found them really good all the tutors have there own ways of teaching all very different and good.

Hope this helps…

Putting my paw print in for CAMrider, Hendon.

While Wes is snuggly wuggly, Rich applies the titty twisters

A decent good cop/bad cop approach to DAS. Gets you comfy on bigger bikes then tightens up your skills - excellent for safety and getting you test-ready.

It took me two tests to pass, my advice? Don’t skimp on the amount of training… That cost me in the end as I was very nervous and all thumbs on my first test.

Another sesh with Richard and I passed my DAS today! Well chuffed!

Well done!

Post up in newbie section to say hello!

Don’t go to North London Motorbike Training at Rex Judd! Recently I let my 17yr old son go there for his training, his friends said look for the chinese man as he is very good. The company said they would do their best but in the end he got someone called Wayne. I had done some research already, so when my son completed the course a bit too early I questioned him about what he done. I was totally horrified to find out a lot of it was left out! Doe’s he really know what to teach? Is he qualified?! My son has no experiance and the company was not helpful. So I booked again with ASL Training based at Slocombes, their number is 020 8830 1000, the instructors name is Ken. This time I know everything was taught. If you love your child, do some research first so you know what’s involved and go to ASL.

my school i trained with wouldont be any good for u lot as its in luton!! but they were good though!!

I find that hard to believe to be honest.

What was he doing there ?..CBT Training ? (as you havent mentioned a Test Failure)…how long was you told it lasts ?..what was you expecting ?

Its not Rocket Science and the School have a set pattern in Training Courses where they cover what is neccesary.

You say you booked him in with another School…meaning that he didnt come away with a Completion Certificate, that would only happen if the Trainers thought that he wasnt competant enough. The Trainers have a duty to make sure they are not letting someone who is a liability to themselves or others out on the roads.

I have completed courses with NLMT and got everything I was told to expect and more !!

Example =

During my DAS I had a real bad bad day…I couldnt get a thing right and when I got it wrong I totally fuked it up and the Test was the following day and this was no fault of anyones but mine. The Fella that Owns and Runs the place took me out personally the following morning and run me through the whole previous days points and made sure I knew it and was calm, settled and comfortable going in to the Test Centre.

Needless to say I passed but think about it, if this School was as unrealiable as you make it out to be then why did he bother doing what he did ?, would it have been worth more to him in Monetary Terms if I failed and he was to recommend I book a few more days of Lessons and another Test ? or why not just farm me off with one of his other Trainers and get on with something he would have probably enjoyed more seeing as it was pissing down with rain all morning !!

NLMT are a Class Act and they have some Very Good Trainers there with a lot more experience than most, take a tour around and visit lets say 3 of the main Training Schools and I,ll bet my Bike that NLMT isnt the worse one you find.
