i have just moved into brixton and on the forums the consensus seems to be my drz400 wont last long, i have an almax 3 with squire and ground anchor and it is covered at night…not parked on street but a driveway type deal outside my gaff…question is will it be gone sooner or later??
Welcome to LB Quint
As long as you always use the security you have, you have a good chance of keeping it! The trouble is when you start getting lazy and not using what you have.
To be honest, everywhere is as bad everywhere else… opportunists don’t stick around in just one town usually. Just make sure you have theft as part of your insurance.
I wouldn’t say Brixton is worse than Streatham, Mitcham, Bermandsey, Peckham… just used your head, and use your stuff.
thanks for the advice, its true, in mid jan after the commute home the last thing u want to do is faff around with a 19mm chain! must not be a slacker!
Hmmm. A DRZ400. You can always leave it with me in East Sussex if you’re worried about theft. I’ll look after it and introduce it to a bit of mud for you!
I sooooooooooooooooooo want one!
I don’t know how high up on the thieves list your bike is…but I’ve lived in Brixton for 10 years and only had one amateurish attempt at theft. One of the things I like about my Daytona is that it’s not really on the thieves shopping list.
I guess you can break the thieves into to categories - the professionals - and if they want your bike you probably don’t stand a chance. And the twat chancer amateurs - it’s these you’ll be able to foil.
Take decent precautions ( always cover it up at night etc. ) and you should be OK. As has been said, it’s bad all over the place.
get another almax and a ground anchor.
if ya that worried can you get 1 of them metal bike garages?
I had my first DRZ for 5 days. It was taken with disk lock and chained from a bike bay. It wasnt chained to anything unfortunatly so that didnt help.
Keep it locked up and chained to the ground anchor.
Just attach it directly to the mains when you lock it up and sweep up the dead bodies in the morning.
I don’t have the luxury of a garage, and I live in a high risk area in East London,
I park on the pavement opposite my house, and the bike gets chained to the lamp post with an Almax chain, takes about 30 seconds. It’s alarmed so I always park really close to said post, on it’s side stand , even though it’s got a centre stand, so i’ts awkward to move without setting off the alarm
Plus I think it’s actually better parking out in the open. The thing serious thieves like most is to be out of the way with lots of time to do what they want without being seen, in a garage or back alley, or while your asleep, that’s not possible out in the open.
In 3 years i’ve not had any trouble, except for a handful of times when kids admiring the bike have moved it while touching, but run off when the alarm sounds. :w00t:
Also because i park out in the open quite a few of the locals have got to know me and the bike, and often engage in a bit of friendly chat about it, and would say something if anyone strange was touching the bike which helps
But whatever you do, an alarm is a good investment
I’ve got a Datatool 3
And an Almax chain, they’re the best
And use it, even after hard day at work and log journey home, better to take 30 seconds fitting than lose your prized possession
