Friends and I are planning our next europe trip in the summer. We all had a great time in the Pyrenees last summer, but the return journey up throw france was long and boring, so we are looking into over alternatives.
Found this bike shipping company and interested if anybody has or know of any experiences with them. http://www.amstours.org.uk/id68.html
How on earth could anyone say travelling through france is boring, this is one time that Id say it doesnt matter if you drive or ride (but ride preferred) its fantastic out there. Sorry bud but I cant agree with you on that one.
Let me clear this up, France is a great place to ride, but on our last trip we had very limited time and only wanted to spend and ride the Pyrenees. That was the focus of the trip. This only left us 1 day to get back to the tunnel, So YES, riding on the motor-ways for well over 8 hours was the most boring and uncomfortable.
If we had more time to take nice direction back we would, but with family and business commitment its not possible.
We got the motorail down to Toulouse, so when we arrived we where all fresh and ready to ride!! So getting back to my original question/post, I gather you have not used them?:Whistling:
God no, never used bike shipping to get to France or anywhere else. I tend to enjoy the ride to my destination allowing time to enjoy the ride back… I’m not sure you’ll find anyone on here using bike shipping I may be wrong tho Q
We took the ferry from Portsmouth - Bilbao and rode from there over the Pyrannees West to East, then back up through France. Only took 2 weeks including stopping 2 nights at most places and some sightseeing - if you did one night per place could do it in a week.
Cheers Jetstream.
We are looking at this option, ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao, we are thinking maybe doing the spanish side of the Pyrannees and heading towards Barcelona. Because of time, flying back and shipping the bikes back.
Would love to ride back up Europe but don’t have the time. shame…
