I have not been on any of these but was wondering if they will make me safer on the road if I attend one of them…for the people who have been on these courses have you leanrt any useful stuff or was it just a day out with chit chat with coffee and cake?
Bikesafe is a very beneficial day out - do a search of the forums and see what I mean !
If you’ve done no further formal training since doing the test (even if 40 years ago!) then Bikesafe is a very good value start. If you learn at least one new thing (or gain extra insight) on the day then it’s a very small amount of money well spent, and will hopefully encourage you to then do the IAM ‘Skills for life’.
Then you might consider becoming an IAM observer or doing the ROSPA test.
What I have learned is that I’m always learning - but getting safer, smoother and swifter in the process.
=1 bike safe is a good day and brings you back down to earth, pointing out your mistakes, may even get you a bit off your insurance.
They get you rethinking about hazard perception, and the road positioning and limit-point techniques are very useful, especially on strange roads.
You get to overtake cars being chased by a Police bike too, which is grin-inducing to say the least.
I done bike safe about 4 months after passing my test, great day, learnt lots and the bike cops that run it at from the Ace are a top bunch of lads, only about £30, thats a whole day with them and lunch, and as has already been mentioned, some insurance companies offer a small discount to people that have passed
Any form of extra training that helps you become safer on the road is good in my books
call me square but i try and get one in every year, just to keep me on my toes, efry time i have learnt/realised something new/different, i am lucky my company pays for me to attend:)
top day out, value for money as well. I really enjoyed mine, alot more confident around the country lanes and I save 10% on my insurance
I did Bikesafe about 4 wks ago, the timing was perfect, a week before that I’d had a nasty near-miss on the A2 which had really shaken me up and knocked my confidence completely.
I really found it a great help and the best £30 I’ve ever spent. I’m so much more confident now, especially round the lanes, I feel my road placement is much improved, visibility is as good as I can make it, and mostly, it was just a good fun day out!
