I’d just like to thank the bike cop who made a nice pathway through all the traffic on the A40 this afternoon. It was really nice following him, watching him blast his horn at the numpties on their phones, and generally cutting a swathe through the nightmare traffic jam from the top of the Edgeware Road to the Hangar Lane Overpass. Quite an education from his riding style as well.
It just makes me think that it’s about time I did a Police Bikesafe course. If my riding skills would be half as good as this guys, it would be well worth it!
If we can keep up that is… I had the pleasure of following an officer on the New Kent Road last week, again a joy at how the Red Sea parts and you can actually get places. He held a sensible speed and I managed to hang on to his coat tails all the way to past Blackheath Tea Hut.
recently came back from Nuburgring in Germany and its like the parting of the red sea for bikes in traffic. Then we got off on the A2 and its back to reality where the great British public dont care or dont look in their mirrors
i did a bikesafe day down at the warren last year to see what all the fuss was about. really enjoyed it and they’re a good set of blokes down there although it wasn’t quite the peg scratching day i was lead to believe it might be by a few posts i’d read the weeks preceding it. i realised this when i overtook a few cars. the fella tailing me just stayed where he was. when we stopped at frankie & bennies for lunch (all included btw) he said “nice overtake”, “cheers” i said. “although the traffic was already travelling at the speed limit so you didn’t need to do it”
the site of cars pulling over to let you through all day will never loose it’s novelty but as soon as you’re out on your own again - forget it. think that was my biggest adjustment actually. it catches you out at first but you soon remember the car drivers you’ve been seeing all day weren’t doing it out the kindness of their hearts
the most useful thing that came out of it for me was the bit at the end where they show you a few different accidents and the outcomes etc. the filtering one, if they’re still using it, is pretty heavy :w00t:
