Can anyone recommend the best tracking system and service? I know a few guys have had bikes recovered by having a tracker and I must get one fitted. But I want to see what is available from the fitting to the actual tracking service and recovery once the bike go’s missing.
New 3-Stage AcuTrac Motorcycle Tracking System looks pretty good but very expensive, I know you can stick a mobile under your seat and track that for peanuts but will it tell you exactly where the bike is for a do it yourself reposession;)
I wanted a Tracker fitted as I live in an area where bikes tend to go missing too often…Most of the systems were very expensive to buy and on-going costs were also high…
I bought a GSM based system direct from a factory in Asia. It’s small, inexpensive, has no on-going costs (apart from keeping some credit on a pay as you go Sim card)… Simply call the device and it sends Latitude and Longitude to you mobile. Type these co-ordinates into Google maps or the like, and that’s where your bike is. I have tested it and it has never failed to pinpoint the bike - accurate enough to show where it is within a few meters. It tucks away and self charges from the bikes electrics as well as having internal batteries… Not seen it sold in the UK ( I am thinking of putting them on Ebay) but if you want full details and specs I can send them to you .
I’m sure the expensive systems do much more but I only want to find my bike it it goes walkabout:)
I have a datatool snitcher which is ok to let you know that your bike has moved but when it comes to tracking it may be very bad. When i tried to locate my bike it gave me a point and 0.8 mile radius.
I found once a GPS/GSM based tracking system which does not cost you anything apart from topping up your PAYG simcard. It cost about £200 so it isn’t much and gives you pin point location of the bike.
I will post a link if I find it again.

Sounds like the system I have but mine cost less than half of that. Seriouslythinking of getting some more and Ebaying them.
How close can you pin point it? alot of these trackers have to be line of sight (in the open so satalites can see them) and some only track it to an area, really no use what so ever.
Can your one be tracked to the exact location enabling you to recover your bike?
This is a different system but probably works just as well. Mine will show the position on a street of the bike - it’s very accurate giving precise Latitude and Longitude co-ordinates (use Google maps)and easily allows recovery. I have taken it into car parks and it does stop working if I go down more than one level but don’ see this as a likely problem . The one on ebay looks like it might be made by the same people as mine…He is selling for 199 Gbp , mine - if I order in bulk - is less than 30% of that price. I would imagine the GPRS system to be cheaper still?..I prefer my system because of where I live and where the bike is likely to go should it be nicked and I cannot depend on triangulation,

Just had a good look at this item…3 meter antenna and accurate from 100 metres in Central London to 10 Kms out in the sticks - no good for me as I am out in the sticks big time:)
The actual tracking site is an ongoing cost for this system. Anyone wanting to use this can just hide an old mobile on the bike rather than spend 200 quid on buying a unit and it will do the same job (Ithink!). Very cheap way to do it;)
For the amount of money your bike is worth mate, get the best system available.Despite some administration (paper work) issues, Tracker is probably the only real effective system for recovering bikes. It has full UK, France, Spain and Italian Police support with many squad cars having Tracker trace units installed so there’s even a better chance that the Police will be able to get to work finding your bike ASAP.Unit works if your bike is in a van, garage, metal container etc. Most importantly, the Police and Tracker do all the leg work finding your vehicle so no need for this going out with a laptop on a wild goose chase trying to find your bike.I know of someone that bought one of those track it yourself systems. They were driving around an industrial estate for ages, then the signal disappeared. This was a two week old Gixxer that was taken and never seen again. :blink:What do you do if you find it and the guy is not too willing to give it back anyway? Call the Police while he takes it somewhere else?Tracker is expensive, but then a bike costs a lot more.

Can only agree on that but he must have had a triangulating system…Mine is precise - covers all of Europe - costs nothing…If my bike is nicked , I’m not about to ride up to a Russian garage and ask for it back;) I would tell the police where it is and let them do their job.
There must be a lot of people who can’t afford an all singing and dancing tracker who would still like some protection? If it’s organised theft you are dealing with I would think the chances of those guys not knowing their way round ANY system are probably zero.
As to running around with a laptop…waste of time - which is why I bought my system.
ide go tracker mate…my K6 was only 600 miles old when she FIRST got knicked…i didnt have a tracking system on her and was sure she was gone for good…48 hours later…i get a phonecall from the police saying that they had found my bike in a garage…
there was an R6…with a tracker beacon going off…and my bike was right next too it…god…i could of kissed the guy who bought that tracker!!!
so…in short…they are worth their weight in gold…and with a bike like yours REDZ…mate…ide go the safer option;).
ide go monitor and retreive…
if anyone farts near your bike…they call you up…sorta like, having an armed guard standing next to your bike…
Thanks fellas! That sounds exactly what i need! Cant remember if it was your system Afro that sends a guard to go and stand by the stolen bike until the police turn up!! Love that idea! I’ll give you a call for the full 100
I had tracker on my R1, As AFRO says its expensive but… It lets you know if the bikes been moved and can be tracked by forces all over the place. Spend the £300 and have the Tracker installed.
