It was bought at a time when fuel was still reasonably priced (not long after the S8 was used in the film Ronin if you’ve seen it, drifting around the streets of Paris and doing some off-roading), and the 4.2l V8 wasn’t too bad on the fuel except around town! It had around 360 bhp IIRC, permanent four wheel drive and lowered suspension to make it rock solid on the road even when you open it up, and the top speed I got was an indicated 180mph - a bit short of the 300kph (and not sure how accurate the speedo would be at those speeds, this was in the days before cheap consumer GPS, we used maps to navigate). It really was a great car, and very elegant too – I used it as the wedding car for a friend’s wedding
