past my test on Saturday 29th-May-10 (that’s another post & 1 hell of a horror story :pinch:with a happy ending :D) & I’ve been a bit forgetfull/lazy about getting a cover, I did start out by looking on the internet a lot & phoning companies but I nerver received a straight answer! It seemed they were only interested if I was buying something rather than pointing me in the right direction, I even asked one company if a certain cover would fit my XVS 250cc Yamaha Dragster & all I got was “I don’t know”, even when I told him how long & high the bike is!!!
I seem to come across Oxford a lot & two types ‘Rainex’ & ‘Stormex’, it seems to me that Oxford are the best quality (true?), is so which 1? Will I just be paying for the name?
I want one that has the holes for the chain but don’t want to pay over the top, I assume It’ll have to be an XL size.
I’ve looked at a lot of reviews but I just see good & bad comments, nothing decisive.
All I want to know is what’s the best for the bike & who sells it the cheapest & the best size!!!
i recently bought the second from top of the line motrax cover (top of the line comes with a tank bag) in size large and it drowns my ktm.great cover for the money £35 reduced to £30
i also have the oxford stormex and that is also a great cover (untill my dog chewed a big hole)
I use the Oxford Rainex and can’t fault it really… I have a GSR 600 and needed a medium. Got it from Infinity motorcycles but didn’t really shop around a lot…
I got an Oxford Stormex for my XJ6 just under a year ago. Has the holes for the chain which I used for the first couple of weeks until the weight of the chain started pulling the material around the outside of the holes away from the main part of the cover.
To be honest, at that point I should have taken the cover back to the shop and exchanged it. But…I’d bought on the way back from a rideout at a place that’s miles away and just couldn’t find the time / patience to get back there in the next couple of weeks.
As a result, despite repeated efforts to fix the tears with duct tape I now have a very ripped front end to the cover. It was getting so bad that I stopped using the holes for the chain.
However, all that being said the rest of the cover is great. Because of where the bike is parked outside my flat I just chuck the cover straight on it after riding and never once had a problem with the cover getting melted and it definitely keeps the wet and snow out of most of the bike. Except for the big section where it’s ripped…
I have the rainex one, £20 I think I paid. it is good but the cold weather really has taken it’s tole on it and now needs replacing, and to be honest would say it is more a summer cover than an all year. I will get another one for the summer months but will invest in a all weather one as well.
I have an RG one it stays on well even without the clips done up also it has loads of holes for a chain all of which are velcroed shut and have piping round the edges. The only downsides seems to be the slight condensation build up under the tank protector and the cover starting to fade after a years use.
Thanks you lot. I’ve just ordered the D.B type, he seemed friendly & reasssuring & said ANY problems there wont be any trouble & to just give him a call, I’ve ordered it to have reinforced chain holes plus heat resistent lining at the exhaust, total with P & P £57. I had to ‘bite the bullet’ at some point & hope it last for a good time after some reviews & reports I’ve read about bike covers. He said he knows what size I need (unlike 1 company I phoned) & just to fold it, he stated some people just throw their covers to 1 side.
Ill let people know how it goes & perhaps it will help others.
