I fitted new rear sets and the shift rod at the gear box end was rubbing on some cables, it has split one open revealing bare wire. I noticed all this when my R1 cut out and refused to start on saturday, i bump started it and rode about 25 miles but the same thing happened, it continued all day with occasions when it just about cranked the engine and did start. I rode home and will charge the battery (when I find my charger), but does anyone have any idea what is going on? It is a 2005 model and I’ve never had any problem with it starting.
Yo Redz, check this post, should have useful info

But, i think the best thing you can do is, take your bike to Suzuki, and ask them to part exchange it for a GSXR…
LOL!!! When we riding fam?
when ya ready, holla at me, im gonna be in london on the 6th april, going to ace cafe for a free hog roll.

Are you sure the wire thing has started this prob?
Are you sure the battery isn’t being charged? Checked the voltage with a multimeter.
Sounds like the TPS fault that I had to have sorted on my R1…Prob just came out of nowhere and hadn’t affected the previous owner in 3 years since manufacture.
Take the bike into the place that I recommended in that other thread that dat fool Goose linked
ah damn, not another R1 rider, they everywhere, just like dog crap, lol
Redz, I will bell ya if your goin ace on the 6th, meet you at the usual mickey ds HQ on Old Kent Road, last one to ace buys the bacon
No pork on my fork, just fish on my dish… You might as well buy me some Mc D’s before we leave and I will keep my eye out for you in my mirrors.
Thanx for the info mas Afro, I am going to try sort it today, others have suggested it might be the regulator rectifier? Seems like a bit of a coincidence that this problem come and that cable bust up, and they are not related but it is very possible.
The battery is dead, not charging it just clicks so once i push start it it wont cut out only when I stop it wont start again. So I dont think it is the TPS. But I will look into it.
no need to look for me in your mirrors Redz, I will bet Ace Cafe eatin a bacon roll while your still filtering on the Old Kent Road, wanna come drag racing next month/
haha take your gixer filth elsewhere
Redz - do you have an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser on the bike?
It has a meta alarm fitted, I finally found my charger i used to use on my 749 and hooked it up, so i will see what happens in the morning.I push started it today, took it out for around 20 ish miles hitting the m25 and m23 as soon as i got home i turned off the engine and tried starting it but it was still flat!
I was quoted £180 for a replacement regulator rectifier and £75 for a battery!!! Please dont let it come to that
Bout time you showed up John Boy…This Gixxer menace is spreading…
I will blast you at the drag stip Goose…I have 157.9 BHP without any mods…When I fit the mods you may aswell just get off your bike and push it
Gixxer filth…This is a bike forum fooo
BHP is nothing without skill, lol
Bring it on!
Anyway, you dont get these faults with Gixxers
Yamaha should stick to making keyboards
Yeah you just get K5 GSX-R 1000s where the frame disintegrates in a low speed spill
well thats just 1 year, yamahas have a good spread from 2002-2005 with the same issue, lol
blah…blah…not listening
You kill a Suzuki just by looking at it
only south londoners ride R1s anyway…
Goose… you kill me, hating on the R1, I dont blame you tho seeing as the only part you see is the exhaust and tail light, Didnt realize you had bust your 100mph cherry yet so I guess congrats are in order… LOL
haha Redz, coming from the guy who couldnt get it up and couldnt lose a car in busy Battersea traffic, my car was filtering better than your R1, lol
