Battery disconnecting

Hi can anyone help? My battery is flat after not being able to use it for a month. I have been out and got a battery charger. I’m having to disconnect the battery as I have no electrics in the garage. What the question is is I have an alarm fitted and I’m worried that if I disconnect the battery the alarm will go off.

Is this true or will I be OK?

Many thanks for ur help.

No power = no alarm. You will be just fine. It won’t go off once you reconnect it either.

I think it depends on what alarm you have. A mate of mine has a datatool on his bike and has to disarm it and I think put it into service mode. If not, and the battery get’s disconnected, the alarm does go off. The alarm itself has a battery to power it and caused all sorts of hassle when his battery died.

The same for when the battery is reconnected. Best to see if you can find the manual for your alarm before doing anything.

I have done the same with my battery - winter killed it. bought an Oximisor 600 and have to disconnect battery and charge tonight.

Got a Datatool S4 Green alarm system and manual says:

You can remove the battery at any time when the
system is ‘immobilised only’ or in ‘winter mode’.
Winter mode also stops the remotes operating the
system making this setting better.
If the alarm system has been armed, the internal
battery back-up system (S4 Red and Green only) is
also turned on and disconnection of the battery will
cause the alarm system to sound.

Ironic that if I had simply put it in Winter mode before I wouldn’t have to do this!

def see if there is a service mode on the alarm

instead of getting a regular battery charger, it would have made sense to treat yourself to a nice new optimate 4 (or whatever the latest one is) charger. sometimes batteries can sulphate and it makes re-charging them a pain.

tip. make sure the battery is at room temperature and any cell plugs are well seated. then put on some safety glasses and drop it from precisely 12 inches onto an old mat on your garage floor. this will knock the sulphate off the plates and make it charge up more effectively;)

Thanks for all your help and advice. I was advised to get a CTEK XC800. I have an acumen alarm which was armed when the battery went flat. I have nothing from the alarm or bike. I have been told that when I disconnect it wont go off but it will when I reconnect. I am going to attempt it on Friday.

Wish me luck, not want to wake the neighbours.

The Aritronix Scorpio alarms have to be disarmed before you disconnect the supply otherwise the alarm will be set off by disconnecting the battery.

Just my two cents.
