So managed to leave my heated glove cables on all day Tuesday, had to get a push start. Battery still low Wednesday, another push start (thanks to a bloke who helped me out), got home, wouldn’t turn over.
Just purchased a shiny new Optimate 4 Battery Charger -
Hopefully be back up and running again by the weekend, plus have a new toy for the garage (silver lining)
the reason I bought my first optimate was leaving the side/parking lights on overthe weekend, cover on and none the wiser until monday morning.
I had my heated grips fitted at the garage or the same would’ve happened to me, they wired them to the ignition so key out means grips off, but I often leave mine switched to on.
I was originally going to have the wiring via the ignition, but probably won’t have the bike long enough, and easier to remove from the battery… just gotta keep checking that switch
if you remove the switch section of the cable when you park up, leaving just the power supply cable, will it then mean that power is still drawn from the battery? i.e. is that effectively the same as leaving the switch on?
caught the switch on mine in France…YOU try pushin a blackbird in 35c heat in leathers :w00t::w00t: not a pretty sight, mucho thanks to a german who had jump leads in his car !! always make sure I turn them off now :D:D
oh +1 for accumin/optimate or whatever brand…lifesavers in winter
As long as the supply cable isnt earthing against the tank/frame/engine then no I often leave mine unpluged as i use the same plug to plug my charger into.

That’s the bit I don’t understand. If the gloves weren’t plugged in then it’s just a lead and there should be not current draw. It’s the simple open circuit situation.
Sounds more like a knackered battery to me, particularly as it had not re charged on the journey home.
Never mind, the Optimate is a good investment, if overpriced.
