Banking charges

Just thought I’d share this little one with you.

I opened my statement yesterday and found, to my horror, that Abbey National had charged me £141 in bank charges :mad. This was due to my going overdrawn by a whole £4 for 2 working days during which Abbey had processed 3 Visa transactions. They charged me £30 per transaction, plus £20 for going overdrawn and then whacked on some interest for good measure. To say I was livid was an understatement.

I marched off and had an appt with the manager today at 3.30pm and, to cut a long story short, they refunded 80% of the charges, but only after I’d quoted numerous parts of banking legislation and that I worked for a bunch of lawyers! If anyone else has encountered anything like this, here’s a cracking link to get you started.

Power to the consumer, I say!!

I’ve just started a small claim against my bank which is due to go to court within the month (Via the money claim website). I’m owed a couple of thou taken in charges over the last 6 years. Anyone who has received bank charges should seriously take a look at the Consumer action group forum @ http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/index.php

Thats really odd. They arent supposed to charge you per failed transaction but rather for per day. Glad you got your money back. They probably thought you wouldnt notice.

Erk, nasty stuff Firestorm & Dan. Thanks for the links though, could come in handy…
