I’ve not done it myself but my girlfriend has her statements going back that far and will be putting in her claim in the next few weeks. Her sister apparently successfully claimed £000s.
cheers dude i will check it out
has anyone claimed money back from there bank
I claimed my charges back last year!
£1600 from the HSBC
cheers mate my gf has been nagging me about getting my charges so we can go on holiday
By far the best advice around can be found here.Word from those in the know is to submit your claim, but it will probably be put on hold until the ongoing court proceedings are over, unless there are ‘hardship’ issues, in which case you may get an interim partial refund. Something like that.
However, if you have an overdraft with the bank, whatever you do, don’t reclaim the charges until you’ve either cleared the overdraft or have the means to transfer/clear the debt at very short notice.
What’s happened to alot of people is that when the bank has agreed to refund their charges, it then gives them notice of cancellation of their overdraft facility or notice of closure of their account. So be aware of their spoilt brat tactics.
the banks are robbing b*stards
Yep. At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.
my gf transfered some money into my account because it took 2 days to clear they charged me for it 25pound and wouldnt even have the decency to pay me the money back after me explaining to them
My son put in a claim last year, he got a letter from barclays saying that all these letters have been put on hold by the courts, or some such blarney…and that they would be contacting him when they have further news? far as i know, we havent heard a damn thing since…apparently the courts said that these banks have to pay back all charges etc…but the banks put in a counter claim and its that, they say, that is taking the time in replying to their customers who have claimed their money? Your post has just reminded me and im going to tell him to get back in touch with them and find out why they havent let us know status on all this…I can never grip, why, these banks charge people £25 and more, simply because maybe their wages went into the bank late and some bills that had come out the day before took the account into the red, for just a day?..surely they can see that a wage is paid into the account the same time of month and that for one day it wouldnt matter…but no, they sent out letter after letter costing £25 or whatever and then you go even further into debt !! hows that helping you? Theres hundreds of people who this is happening too and some dont even realise it cos they dont check statements properly!
As far as I know the court case is still going on, so nothing will happen until it’s all finished.
Tom.
Yep, thats what my sons just told me…its the banks way of stalling…as per !!! its ok when they want to send us letters with bullshit attached…but when we want something done, you get all this crap…bit like insurance co’s…they give us all the ol shpeil (spelling?) on what we can save etc beforehand, when we take out a policy with them, soon as we need to make a claim, we get smacked in the ass next time policies due cos we had to make that claim !!!
most people dont even know the half of it !
It takes retail banks 2-3 days to process transfers when in actual fact it takes about 20-30 mins. But they have a beautiful thing called overnight lending off which they earn interest ! …great huh !

Yeh…and i wish i could get £25 for typing a couple of lines on a letter stating that your being charged because your account is now in arrears…(and in even more arrears cos youve just charged me £25 for this bluddy letter!!)I would type them letters all day if i got that kind of money for them !!! Its like going to the docs for a private certificate, he just stamps and signs it and charges you £10 or whatever the stupid amount is now…not bad…£10 for 2 mins work…yet you try getting them to get you to see the hospital, you have to wait about 12 wks before they can give you an appointment, and then they could cancel it for you last minute for no reason, so you take time off work for nothing !!!
HSBC have been really good to me. Once they charged me, dunno why, but the next day they’d given the money back. I only knew about it cos it was on my statement!
Also HSBC now transfere money in 3 hours, which is good going!
Yep I claimed my charges back. Also opened another bank account while it was all ongoing and transferred all my DD, wages etc. This was all before the court case thats now ongoing. Wouldnt be surprised if it gets dragged out for years to come.
I got an estimated ammount back because I didnt have statements going back all the way. The BBC news web site had all the docs you need, advice on how to fill them in and what to do when.
Was well worth the hassle.
Natwest got me into a product which looked as though it might be good for me as I am abroad most of the time.
On going into it properly, I decided against it and wrote to the branch (within the time limit) asking that the account be closed which, they told me ,was not a problem.
On getting back to the uk after many months away. I found they had been taking 12 quid a month from the account(which they had NOT closed) AND, because I had put nothing in the account (as I thought it closed) to cover the 12 quid, they stuck another 30 quid charges on top. So 42 quid a month for a closed account…WTF!
I, at no time used the account in any way - cards issued were returned unopened etc…they are now trying to take me to court over this…Where do you guys think I stand on this?
Cheers,
David
The funny thing is its only the people with no money that are getting hit they may as well bend you over and do it with no lube

Know its a long shot, but do you have copy of that letter? And how come no one called and asked you if you wanted that account closed as you wasnt using it? Barclays called me and said they can see ive not used one of my accounts and do i want it closed, i thought id done it so just said yeh, close it…but to take money from a account that has no money going into it for that long is stupid on their part? They are like the tax man, just let it go on for years and then smack you with a tax bill you didnt think you had !!! and expect you to pay it !! Surely you have some rights in this? if you had that original letter it would be a huge help though? cos they will try and get out of this for sure and you will end up not only paying court costs but whatever it is they are claiming you owe? blimey !
I say banks are robbing b*stards
im gonna get my charges back pay my overdraft off then tell them to stick there account
