Did a little bit or riding on the Bandit today to make sure the chain and brakes were OK, and noticed that when changing form 1st up into 2nd, there’s quite a big ‘clunk’ (like some bikes do when going from N to 1st). The clutch lever was definitely all the way in.
Havnt you just replaced your chain?..Assume you had the gearbox sprocket cover off , if so this holds the clutch release mechanism which acts on the clutch pushrod. May be a good idea to check this and readjust if necessary ,
you may have disturbed it
Yeah, when I put the sprocket cover back on I did re-adjust the release mechanism, more or mess back to how much freeplay etc. there was in the level before I changed the chain.
I’m sure it used to clunk from N into 1st, but now seems to do it from 1st into 2nd instead, if that means anything ?!
The adjuster screw should be tightened so there is no free play[ just touching the pushrod, then back it off 1/4 turn and tighten the lock nut]
If it still clunks then i wouldnt worry, but it is best to ensure it is correct to begin with.
The other thing is your oil… I had this problem on my 1200 here in Spain and changed to Mobil One Syn… best move I could have ever done…
Use 5w-50 in hot temps or 0w-40 in colder temps i.e. London
Much smoother gear changes and the motor runs like a champ. The 5w-50 helps the motor run cooler as well. I would highly recommend that you pick up a oil temp gauge like this: Oil Gauge
Not only does it make people look but it is highly functional too.
