I’ve been using my ‘offroad’ dainese back protector but need something to use day to day - old one stinks!
The obvious choice is another dainese. I am specifically interested in the ability to reduce excessive movement in hyperflexion and hyperextension. Many quote the CE standard EN1621-2 but this only appears to rate their ability to absorb a direct impact force, not impact movements.
It must be a secure item with upper torso and kidney straps. I am not interested in jacket inserts.
The Knox stuff looks good but they make no mention of the protection I seek. I also note dainese don’t state this either anymore. Are the armour manufacturers scared of specifying a level of protection that can’t be guaranteed?
I have a Davies Ordell Forcefield which I believe has passed level 2 (which I remember was important at the time). It is also a Ride magazine recommended product. I bought mine at Infinity motorcycles Holborn.
It is the most comfortable piece of kit I own. Once it warms up you are less aware of it than anything else you are wearing. I’d recommend it 100%. I’ve tried on a Knox before and that felt good too but the Davies ordell is more like wearing a glove than a back protector.
i was in lidl today and they had back protectors in there i had ran out of cash on the shopping but they look very good and around £18 i think, i may take the risk and get one tomorrow may be worth a look
We have Forcefileds - but only the jacket insert type. Very comfortable, don’t even notice they are there, keep your back warm in winter, but not too hot in summer. Oh, they also might protect us:)
unfortunately the answer here is that no back protector limits hyperflexion/extension no matter what it says on it.
and i’m not talking from experience in reading magazines or product guff i’m talking from personal experience and the experience passed onto me from those that know - race medics!!
I broke my back, however, my back protector saved me from really knackering it and ending up paralysed. A level 2 protector is a must. We as frail beings need to be protected against impact in that region, no back protector is bullet proof and not a single one will prevent you back flexing, especially not the plastic ribs that instill so much confidence in their build quality.
i dont know what your on about ? extension stuff, but i use knox fullback protection covers my complete spine and sholder blades, wraps round me waist with super strong velcro and has brace’s type straps on front too , dont cause any restrictions and is really comfy and feels like if i land on my back it will save me no problem.
