Avon Storm ST tyres

Anyone used them? am looking for tyres for the Bird and theese seem to be an good option…

I’ve been using them on my CBR600F and think they’re great.

I know they’re pretty well thought of on the “Bird” forum…

I’ve done 1700 miles on them now and have built up good confidence in them. I commute everyday and scratch about at the weekend and have had no major slips. I’ve already taken advantage of the Avon “Road Hazard Warranty” and had the rear replaced after collecting a five inch screw.

I’ve always been on Bridgestone BT020’s and 021’s and am much happier on the Storms. It’s well worth trying a set.

The road hazzard thing is a good selling point, plus they are slightly cheaper than the B’stones

The 021’s I had on before suffered from really uneven wear on the front. It was as-if the center was too hard and the edges were too soft… they looked like the profile of a 50 pence piece. The only reason I tried the Storms was because a mate, who had them on an RR-W Blade, recommended them, and I couldn’t find and 020’s anywhere. Glad I went for them though… well pleased.

I’m on my 4th pair so you could say I like them. First pair on the CBR6 were down to borderline illegal after 13000 miles, the second pair were still there 5000 later when I p-xd it. The first pair on the VFR I lost to a nasty bit of sharp twisted metal after 7500 miles, I had BT021s which only lasted 8000 on the back and were wearing strangely at the front so I’ve gone back to the Avons. I find them excellent in the wet especially. Michelins are a good alternative but cost more, the new Dunlop Roadsmart are getting a very good press but I’ve not tried them myself.

I use them on the Busa and i’m very happy with them, good grip in the wet and the twisties.

I have a Storm rear on my ZX9 and it’s fantastic.Almost as grippy as the Viper sport it replaced, but much better in the wet.Rated very highly by Bike mag in several tyre tests on different bikes.

Heard mixed reviews from Busa owners. They come with about 7mm of tread or something :w00t:

Should last well if they suit you

Cool, going to get them and for once ER are not the cheapest… ever with discount.

Hmmm I need some new rubber soon for my '97 Blade. I’m doing a Track day at the beginning of March though, would the AVON’s be a let down!?

It’s my first time on the track though so the limmiting factors will probably be between my eyes not on my wheels!

had 010s and 020s till i decided to try st’s

wont use anything else

record on a hornet 900 (90% motorway use) was 10k for a pair

020 are good in wet st even better

I like the storms… good value for money but not as good as the Michellin Pilot Road 2s

They are superb - never once slipped on me… even in terrential rain. Obv moremoey - but worth it IMO.
