I’ve noticed today next to some of the new average speed cameras there are signs like this (below). They were not there before. I’ve reviewed my earlier footage and it looks like they’ve probably been set-up a week or two ago.
All the signage is up. And there is a camera on the overhead boards when you get on the west way westbound. Can only really see it when your travelling east bound. Time to behave/ find another route
Why is it reading that all these responses were 2 months ago? Am I in a futuristic time warp?
oops, no, it’s sorted itself out… carry on…
A40 hammersmith flyover was closed overnight last night. A friend tells me they’ve burned off the “40” speed limit painted signs on the lanes. Fingers crossed, they’ll at least increase the limit on the flyover.
They did the same on westway…
Some sugns are up, orhers arent
Some cars doing 40 some doing 140…
R the cameras working or not yet?
I have been told this morning that the local paper last week said they were going active last week. I don’t think the ones going west bound are as they don’t have the signs up on them.
I join westway from woodlane and there is no camera on the slip road yet…
At the exit for westfield they only put a camera there on sunday…
needless to say my average speed was well above 40 on sunday …
They are being a bit sneaky about the location of the cameras. They are some are easy to miss.
@David there are signs everwhere now. But they’re not as big as I expected them to be
Hey… So I took a good look behind me today as I joined the a40 from the Paddington slip road coming from I think… It’s called Gloucester terrace. Anyways, there’s cameras there too.
So be careful if you think joining here avoids them because unfortunately not! Have a good look behind you’ll see them bright yellow and ready to earn some cash for the good ole council
A new set of average speed cameras has appeared on the Eastbound carriage way just outside the Hoover building in the last few days. Looks like they’re still finishing off the installations.
Another set of cameras has gone up Eastbound. This time just after the traffic lights in Park Royal (after the BP garage)… the sections are getting smaller…
People are still driving 50mph and possibly more… I’m not taking any chances though!
Going eastbound in the morning, given there is now a queue back to the paddington area every morning does it make any sense to assume that by the time you get to the cameras near the exit, filtering through the traffic will have slowed you down sufficiently to bring your average speed down (if you’ve been travelling around 50)?
Assumption is the mother of all ****-ups.
But on this occasion there is a simple solution if you have a timepiece with seconds visible. Time not to be beaten = time between the sets of cameras at 40mph
OK my GCSE maths was never up to scratch, so the following is bound to get me a ticket in short thrift: the roughly 2.7 miles between the cameras at the wood lane exit and the last cameras eastbound by edgware road mustn’t be done in under 4 minutes.
yup, that’s about right, a massive slowdown compared to the times before. The problem is that bikes will never make up as much time as cars in the queue so cars and vans, during most of the day, can still do 70-80 along there and never get a ticket because they’ll most likely spend more than 4 minutes stopped or inching forwards at the end of the stretch.
Yeah I guess if you are timing it you can at least wait in without arousing suspicion to get past the 4 min mark if needed. Travelling between 50-60 up to there means that would probably never be too long.
Spotted matrix signs informing that cameras will go live on the 26th…
So now as well as dealing with idiots steering with their knees while texting their partners to tell them about the congestion when the A40 is busy, during times when the A40 is free flowing I now have to deal with people staring constantly at their speedometers to ensure they’re doing 49.5mph. Fantastic.
From next week, the new average speed cameras on the A40, which replace the older style spot cameras will begin enforcing. Further systems along the A406, A316 and A2 currently being installed and will begin installing from early next year.
