Attempted Theft, Kings Road SW3

Literally about 20mins ago I heard my disclock ringing outside on my DRZ400.

I ran out and I saw two scrotes. One on a black 125 scooter and the other near my bike.
They saw me and quickly jumped onto their scooter and rode of.
I chased them on foot and they almost T-boned a taxi.

It was a black scooter (could of been navy)
Both had black helmets.
Only part of the plate I got was “LT06 ***”
I think they where both white young lads.

I reported it to the police and then jumped on my bike and had a look around. They were gone!

Good recommendation for those alarmed disc locks.

Yep.
This has been my 2nd ‘known’ save thanks to them.

The first time I had this happen to me I was unaware of it and they had a good go at getting the lock off (ignoring the alarm). They failed, leaving me with a warped disc.
Better that then a missing bike hey.

lucky mate i had mine taken a week or 2 back and managed to get it back pritty beat up so my dad bought me a alarm disk lock there quite good ill admit

Xena should be paying me for this!

what one was on your bike when they bent your disk i have the yellow one wiht the 6mm locking pin XD

The small yellow one was on the front disc. I dont think they knew I had the hunka-momma 14mm lock on my back wheel.

haha this is the one i used to have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HNqvJ_qWPg

it was good untill it got water loged and broke lol but the xena one looks much better and i can clip it onto a bracked hanging off my bike like you have XD

Theres a Thatcham approved Xena XN10… Surely it would make more sense to get that as they are only £10 more expensive?

Sorry to hear about this Prem. But glad the alarmed disc lock came in handy. Good to know they can actually be heard.

I have an Oxford Screamer, only 7mm but that’s because it was the only disc lock that would fit on my S-Wing :-). However the alarm is very quiet - they claim it’s 100db but I don’t think so! I don’t think I’d hear it from inside at all, so be glad you’ve got a brand that’s loud enough to hear!

Having said that, mine did frighten off a group of youths who were taking an interest outside Sainsbury’s a while back. Also, the screamer is great because if I try to ride away without removing the disc lock it tells me before I even turn the machine on (it feels the movement of me putting shopping in the top box or getting on the bike and sounds the alarm). So a good buy, just not loud enough!

£35

That’s a pretty good price for a 10mm lock.

However in my experience every insurance quote I’ve gone for has only said “Xena Disclock” in the security device drop box. No option to differentiate between types or sizes.

It would of been more handy if I caught them… Each would of worn a lock in their grill!

thatcham aproved doesnt mean jack tbf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3hFr8p2ck arfter you watch this haha

If I’m going to invest in something I might as well make it worth my while as well.

A disc lock made by the same company can’t differ that much… After all if you watch Premises187’s vid its the pin that changes and not the whole device.

Eg, The one I’m talking about has a 10mm pin your one has a 6mm pin. Which one do you think is more effective?

How much does this device typically reduce your insurance?

We overheard a salesman at Infinity Hangar Lane dissuading a customer from buying an alarmed disc lock, he said that they were no good “as they get set off when people brush past them”.

Any experience of this happening?

My screamer gives a warning (four beeps) if it feels the bike move, but it depends on where it’s “brushed”. It’s on the front wheel, so any touching of the handlebars shoots off the warning - touching the top box you have to be a bit more violent to make it beep. It definitely isn’t over sensitive, I’d say just right.

I heard the same thing from salespeople but that was because I was using the disklock to also secure the bikecover on at the time so gusts of wind wound make it move… well that was their logic anyway…

Well he used that ‘salesman talking balls’ tone of voice that they have so just wanted a few independent opinions:)

doesn’t it depend also on the location of the lock attached to the disk?

Think I’ve read somewhere that some Xenas or others are more sensitive when you attach it to the top of the disk, and for less sensitivity you attach it to the bottom of the disk.
No idea how it works exactly, just what I remember what I read somewhere not so long ago.

Any experience with that?
