Arai helmet paint chipped - solutions?

Hi all,

I dropped my Arai helmet and, to my surprise, the paint chipped a little bit (see picture).

I knew that Arai used to sell paint to retouch the paint in these circumstances but when I asked to my local dealer he told me that they not sell it anymore.

Does anybody know how I can fix it?

Many thanks,

F.

Owww we’ve all done that before mate, sorry it was your turn. That slow-mo moment then the nasty crash as it hits the deck. Urrgh.

Erm, I remember asking about it years ago and was told that it’s not wise to try painting etc as the chemicals can react badly with the now exposed bits and weaken further the lid.

Sounded a bit like “buy another lid from us” to me! So I dabbed a bit of superglue on it, sanded it flush(ish) and applied some black enamel (twas a black lid) then some clear varnish. It hid the damage and since I used it for a year after.

Your lid is a special colour, so even if you manage to disguise the divot where paint used to be, matching colours is going to be a 'mare.

Perhaps a sticker? Someone must have one of those Arai ones spare?

Nail vanish mate! Yes, that’s it! In the majority of the cases they have a very similar colour of our bike helmets and if you use the nail base one it will fill the hole you got there there and level it as well. Then you paint it over. It’s hard enough to get there and avoid water get between the paint layers of your lid.

Was nice to meet you the other night mate and the ST is a cracking bike

If either of Andrews or Cezars soloutions don’t work then it can be sent back to Aria and they should be able to sort it for you, but not sure how much it will cost?

They are very good with things like this so you should be in good hands if you can’t find a soloution.

Know how you feel dude, did exactly the same thing on Friday

How high did you drop it from? If its relatively high I think you should get it internally inspected or something to make sure it’ll still protect you.

Thank you all for your recommendations and very good ideas.

I will take the helmet to the nail shop!

This looks like a very good solution as I think that they can fix very well. I tried to ask to a nail shop nearby where I work, they were very happy to fix it however they didn’t have any yellow as, understandably (and from my point of view, likely), not all girls paint their nails with yellow, especially around there. However, they told me that yellow exists.

If I do not find a better solution (which sounds difficult) on Saturday I will look for a nail shop which uses the yellow colour, I will let you know how it goes.

The main structure of the helmet is fine; I dropped it from less than a metre, that’s why I was surprised when I realised it chipped. I think it hit the pedal of the bike before touching the floor.

Hei mate, my pleasure to meet you last Friday and thanks for the compliments about the bike, v happy with her as well, I could not imagine I could get a bike like that with my limited budget. I hope to see you again soon and, when it’s warmer, we might go for a healthy ride in the countryside if you like.

What about a GB sticker? (If its right on the top, would be useful for when the police chopper is tailing you

I finally fixed my helmet with some nail vanish. It is not perfect as I hoped but it’s ok.

In the end nail shops proved to be useless and I did the job myself.

Bye bye everybody,

F.

nice one! I do use them myself… felt a bit funny going to buy them though…

“Bye bye everybody”? Surely you’re not leaving for good already?

No, no, still here!

Oh, goody! I thought that Cezar’s overfamiliarity with nail polish scared you off (and you haven’t even seen the pics of him in a PVC catsuit!), but I see you’re made of sterner stuff!
