Anyone ride a Honda S-Wing?

I saw one of these in the Honda Showroom today and I think it’ll be perfect for me. Wonder of Wonders, even the wife liked it!

I can’t seem to find a good review by someone who’s actually ridden one. Honda Chiswick are unable to organise a test-ride of one (Fernando says it’s just impossible). Before buying, I’d love to talk to someone who actually has one or has at least ridden one! Questions like:

  • Is the bike hard to control at slow speeds bearing in mind that it’s quite a bit heavier than most scoots?
  • Does it “feel harder” to filter with than a normal scoot in London? I know it’s not actually much wider, but it certainly looks it and feels it?
  • Is the ride as comfortable as e.g. the SHi 125? The wheels are smaller…

Come on all you S-Wing riders, there must be some out there!

how do they expect you to buy one without a test ride?

Find another dealer who will let you test it… You have to be sure it’s right for you, especially if, like I saw in the other thread, you’re thinking of buying new

I got a test ride on the 2011 cbr 125 from motoden hoxton with my CBT. Could ask them if they can give you a test ride on an S-Wing.

There are a few S-Wing owners over at Maxi Muppets. Ask over there: www.maxi-muppets.co.uk

Don’t worry about filtering or anything - it’s only a midi-scooter, not even a maxi. And my own maxi scoot scythes through traffic easily.

Thanks for the recommendations folks. I gave Doble a call… and wow, what a difference in terms of customer service. It’s like these guys actually want to sell me a motorbike! Yes of course I can test-ride a bike, they wouldn’t imagine me buying one without doing so, so test-ride now arranged for this Saturday, they are happy to arrange the Honda 0% finance for me, if I want, they can even pre-arrange it on the phone to save time, the gentleman I spoke to will email me a list of the things I need to bring with me on the day and directions, and they will try their very hardest to speed up the whole registration/tax process so that I can get riding next week before I leave on holiday

Awesome dealer so far, I really hope they live up to the initial impression!

Ooooh, saw one on the motorway today, it looked lovely :-). At first I thought it must be a Silverwing, but it was definitely an S-Wing, cruising at 70mph on the M4 heading Westbound from Swindon towards Bristol.

Can’t wait for my test ride. Yes I know I’ll want a bigger bike when I pass my full license, but I’ll want to keep the scoot as well I think!

you MUST be talking about something different than what came up when I googled (I didn’t know what an S Wing was)

This? :pinch:

Yes, that exactly. I think it’s great - bearing in mind that I’ve already chosen to buy a scoot with storage rather than a sports bike or other 125cc

When I buy a bike, it’ll be a bike (I’ve been on the pillion of my friends 1000CBR…)

Premises187 had one. He put a review on youtube here.

A friends partner has one. She loves it. But that’s no substitute for a test ride.

Dobles aint cheap, but you get the service you pay for and providing you forewarn them and are a serious customer, a half day borrow is usually o.k. So that’s an easy Brighton and back.

Don’t forget to take your licence and insurance cert. with you.

Aiesman - Premises187 had a Silverwing, the bigger brother of the S-Wing. It has a bigger engine, the S-Wing has a 9.7Kw 125cc unit - which means I can legally ride it!

Thanks oldguy

I bought an S-Wing from Dobles in 2008. The transaction was smooth and they gave me 20% off all my kit (I needed the lot)

They’re a great moped!! Gutted I couldn’t afford to run it along side my GSX650F!

You can get 3 bags of shopping under the seat, the wind protection is really good, the misses will be comfy on it and the engine
has enough grunt for the commute and even a bit of 2 up riding, which is pretty impressive for a 125!

I got it with a top box and the sports screen as well!

You can’t go wrong with Honda!!

Well, I test drove one at Doble today… and it was great :-). It felt much more stable than the Dylan I had previously, and the braking was incredible (I tried to make it skid and couldn’t). I know, to you guys used to “real” bikes, this is like a toy, but for me I figure it’s about as much bike as I can handle at the beginning.

So, I applied for and received the 0% finance, paid a deposit, and will be picking it up on the 1st of September (with a new 61 registration number :-).

I was loaned one when both our bikes were being serviced. I rode it from outside London all the way to Westminster and back and was very impressed at the stability and handling of the bike two up with two pretty big people on it. I have ridden all sorts of scooters of all shapes and sizes, and the S-Wing was one of the nicest 125s to ride. I have always really liked the look of them also.

just brought a honda s-wing brilliant scooter well worth the money.

I’m currently looking for a smaller displacment bike for commuting and city 2up’ing since I burn so much fuel.
I see them S-wing 125’s hold their value well and it has some very nice luxury equipment with it… but for the price I could get a more nippy 250.

You certainly could, but I’ve found mine certainly sufficient! It’s also much more comfortable than any of the other “small” maxi’s I’ve tried…
