Anyone know these insurance companies?

So I’m going through the moneysavingexpert guide to get the cheapest insurance.

I’ve come up with the following for TPFT:

MCE - £389, excess £250
Renew and Likewise - £378, excess 650
Bike Devil - £424

Bikesure - £425, excess 550
Scooters and bikes - 443, excess 500

If I add breakdown cover and personal accident (is that worth it?..) its 541 from S&B.
Does anyone know/had experience with these companies? The price differences are fairly minor and I’d like some peace of mind. Read a lot of bad stuff on here about MCE so I don’t think I’ll go with them :stuck_out_tongue:

My previous insurance on the innova was 350 so I can’t complain.

I just looked BeWiser who give ‘free’ RAC, legal, breakdown and personal injury. 800 quid. Apparently this all includes my 1 year no claim…
Even though BeatThatQuote says 580. Still a lot though…

Always worth ringing them you can usually get a better deal on the telephone.

Also I think MCE include breakdown cover in all their quotes.

Scooters & Bikes is Lexham Group - a Broker. The covered my bike last year TPFT via Groupama, pretty good. Lots of hounding at renewal which I guess is a good thing as you defo won’t forget to do your renewal.

I moved to Hastings Direct for the CBR600F again they’re a broker and I’m covered via Aviva (insurer)

It’s defo worth giving a few a call and play them off against one another.

I’m aware MCE usually offer the cheapest cover possible but after a bad experience with their sales team earlier this year I wouldn’t want to deal with them.

The excess on some of those policies is quite large and should be taken into account.

do a search on Shame MCE threads in the praise&shame forum, ye may not want to use MCE afterwards

Yea, I saw those threads before and it stuck in my head, thanks guys

I had an excess of 500 on my scooter and when I swapped over to my YBR, it stayed the same/went up for FT which I didn’t realise at the time. So now I’m actually paying some attention to it. So 500 is quite high for excess? It seems to be the default/compulsory figure on most quotes I get.

I’ll give some of them a call and try and reduce the excess. Might go with the Lexham group in the end as I’m currently with them already and they don’t seem to bad in terms of admin. If anyone has input on how they are in terms of claims/accidents, let me know!

Iv always been tempted by Bike Devils 0 excess but never had a decent quote from them, always like 25% more expensive, that quote dosnt look too bad, but I would look at the terms before you buy, may be a clause to make you pay if anything goes wrong, “touch wood”

Insurance companies are all the same s**t… Do the smart thing and get a proper solicitor in the event of an accident and not the placement student monkeys they have. They going to do everything to avoid paying you out anyway.

They are connected to MCE - http://www.mceinsurance.com/company-news/2011/mce-launch-on-bike-devil-website/

Try MCN compare, I got a good deal.

Also Devitt were good when I had a bike stolen last year.

Never had a problem with MCE for the 1.5yrs ive been insured with them and they were the cheapst by long way to insure my GSXR.

I recently had to claim for my bike being stolen mid september and they have been pretty good. Its been about 3 weeks now since the claim and they have offered me a value for the bike where I have read others waiting much longer. I dont know if 3 weeks is good as its my first theft claim but seems pretty reasonable.

I clicked through MCE’s website and added a top box (Luggage system/panniers) to the quote and it jumped from 420 to 1900!!!
I’ll give them a call tomorrow but I might have to go with someone else if that’s true. The box is only worth 50 quid or so but I don’t want to misreport it and void the insurance!

That’s odd, I insure my Ducati with MCE and I have a topbox and luggage system fitted - once you get a quote reference number, phone them to talk about your quote. If you include your topbox in the value of your bike, that will help, just as long as you tell them. Plus when you speak to a human you can haggle.

Gave them a call and turns out if you add it as a ‘modification’ they consider it a full panier mod. They quoted me 450 but I think I’ll go with a renewal with Lexham which is 470 and in monthly installments!

Lexham were like ‘oh yea, we don’t care if there’s a topbox unless you want to insure its contents’. But yea, I included the value of the top box in the value of the bike so it’s all good. Thanks!
