Anti-Corrosion Spray

Hi,

Has anyone used any spray to protect engine parts from corrosion in the winter? As I’m gonna keep riding my bike as much as possible in the winter I’d like to get it protected as best I can seeing as it is a naked bike and all is exposed!

Thanks,

ACF-50 all the way… this stuff is the best!

Scotoiler FS-365 is pretty good too.

but i prefer the former

+1

Nice… Just read up on it and seems perfect!

Many thanks!

butter here i come!!

Bet it’d smell nice on the commute

has anyone tried Tectyl Superwax? it looks impressive

I think ACF needs toppinng up, esp as you’re going to be washing the bike down occasionally.

If you find a supplier for the wax stuff let us know, maybe a group order.

As its a wax it might be more permanet and thicker, might also look a bit like the engines caked with chud, but if it means its reisitant to washing off and no corrosion then fine.

I think I’m going to stick with ACF-50… That wax has put me off a bit… Don’t know why but it doesn’t look like it’s the right thing for engine etc…

Maybe I’m being ultra paranoid and sensitive about it but at least the ACF-50 is tried and tested by other bikers… I’m no pioneer! :stuck_out_tongue:

Lidl do a W5 Anti-Corrosion spray which is basically the same as ACF 50. It is alight spray wax with anti-oxidant additives. As far as I can see it works exactly like ACF 50 but is a fraction of the price.

The Lidl stuff isn’t a patch on ACF50, and doesn’t have the same lubricant properties.
ACF is brilliant stuff - we bought 2 cans 3 years ago, and have used maybe 70% of it over two bikes in that period.
Spray / wipe it on, and forget about it for the winter - don’t wash the bike.
I use it for a lot of other jobs like freeing stuck fasteners etc as it has an excellent capillary action and is far better than WD40.Doesn’t smell as nice when it burns off downpipes, though (

Yeah the ACF-50 is good stuff. Dries to form a tacky covering similar to wax but not as crappy.

I used it last year and then just made sure I didn’t wash the metal area’s where it was on. Worked a treat for the whole of winter.

The scottoil stuff is good too but that comes off even after riding in the wet so you have to keep washing and reapplying - this is good if you’re anal about constantly washing your bike and so needing the new layer anyway, but otherwise ACF all the way

ACF50. I’ve used it for 3 winters now and the bike still looks very good. Use a paint brush for hard to get to areas and make sure you cover your discs before putting it on. Use a clean rag to rub it onto surfaces and so on. Well worth doing and makes a big difference in looking after your P&J.

I tend to favour Muc-off bike protectant. ACF-50 doesn’t seem to leave a wet oily layer that attracts dirt and becomes paste like even though I give it a bit of time and then rub off the residue with a rag.

I will probably switch to ACF-50 for winter as it will help with the wet weather and it will be less dusty, then switch again during summer.
