Yeah, I know, it’s just like falling off- it’s a hazard of owning a bike that one day or other it’s going to happen- one minute it’s safely parked up fully alarmed, the next minute there’s simple lots of empty space where it used to be.
A good mate of mine had his cherished mint R6 nicked last night from Baker St central London. It’s a fairly pointless question but would people mind just keeping an eye open?
KE03 CXN Red and white.
Needless to say, he’s totally gutted but sanguine about the whole thing.
Sorry to hear this - I guess the ease of nicking bikes is why we all pay so much insurance for theft.
This is one of the reasons I dont always clean my bike or replace a part on it immediately. If it doesnt look really really nice, or has a wing mirror missing then people/theft scouts dont take as much notice. I guess Im also lucky that it’s not available overnight in London.
Thanks for your sympathies- I’ll pass it on to my buddy.
And yeah, unfortunately you’re right Miss Power, the sweeter the bike looks the more liabale it is to go walkies. I had my carbon fibre, tricked up 'Busa nicked a while ago and ending up knocking around on a beaten up Gixer6 and it was always where I’d left it… but that’s no reason not to take pride in what you ride and I’ll be damned if we let those a-holes dictate our motorbiking enjoyment. It’s just wise to accept this is one of the risks.
I’m considering getting a tracker fitted to my K12R. Anyone know if they work and how much, etc?
Yeah Phantom- I saw your post of your gorgeous gixer having been ripped off. I feel your pain brother believe me! Dont suppose you’ve heard anything positive?
Oh and that funny word means optimistic, cheerful, positive, etc.
Now do 1,000,000 lines - “Even though some c*nt took my pride and joy, I will always remain sanguine.”
Sorry to hear another one has gone walkabout. On this topic, I was wondering if there’s any point just putting a chain through the back wheel if there’s nothing to chain it to. I’ve got a land anchor at home but not at work, so it sits outside on the thankfully busy street with nothing more than the steering lock and alarm on.
Im answer to your question. It would not stop somebody lifting it into the back of their van but would stop somebody trying to wheel it off. The latter I have never seen done as they are quite heavy!
I watched the CCTV footage of mine, they backed a large white panel van up to the bike. 3-4 guys lift it into the back and off they go. I have seen on youtube people use a people carrier in the US and put it through the side door. In these cases they were both sports bikes.
Ah I see, I thought it was a red faced, embarrassed, didn’t lock my bike up to an immovable object red face type of thing…
As for the news on the bike, I have spoken to a police man that owes me a favour (long story) and he said the basics have been filled out on the report but that’s about it for progress…
They should have CCTV of the event so I’m sure somebody would recognise them?
So roll on 21 days before the insurance company request my details and I can start to wait for my pay out…
Oh man, I didn’t realise you’d actually seen cctv footage of it being nicked! That’s awful. Was there nothing distinctive about the van or circumstances? I’m totally amazed that so many bikes vanish apparently into thin air and these thugs are never caught. Dont the Police appreciate that this is a crime worth trying to solve?!
Posts like this make me want to pop downstairs and check the hornet’s still where I left it. Chained and disc locked but as we all know that won’t stop them if they really want it.
Yeah that sort of idea but mine happened at 12pm Lunch time with a guy smoking a ciggy next to it and the security guards watching the front of the van on the CCTV a few metres away on the ground floor in a small street surrounded by my offices.
thats poo news for your m8 owen:angry: hope he gets it back
i’ve now got 2meters of almax chain and ground anchor to wrap around my 660 plus 4 other chains & even have wire locks around the cover:cool: even thats not full proof but i pray its enough to put them off my bike. also got a paint ball gun next to the window;)
