Anonymous letter from neighbours regarding my 'noisy bike' !!!

I know it was a very polite letter !! That’s why I’m viewing it very light heartedly - if it was angry or threatening I would have been knocking on doors tonight.
I’m more intrigued than anything, racking my brains thinking of who it might be… on friendly / chatting terms with a lot of my neighbours, those I don’t know I usually give a nod or smile too, just wondered why they felt they couldn’t say anything to me rather than letting the postman be the one to pop the note through my front door. Wish they had made themselves known so I could explain I’m not burning petrol for fun, I ain’t that rich !!

I’m usually considerate when starting the bike up i.e. full choke on, start it up and immediately cut the choke so it’s more of a low rumble, gloves and lid on and off I go (keeping the revs fairly low anyway as the engine’s warming up). I’ve heard more than once that riding the bike straight off without at least a bit of a warm up isn’t very good for the longevity of the engine life.

I never had any complaints when I had the GS500 or SR125 ??!!

I think what must have brought this to a head was on Tuesday morning the battery in my bike had given up the ghost, so my and the fella opposite had to bump start it at 7AM, which was a little noisy :hehe: and I did leave it running for a few minutes on that occasion…

Should be OK legally as the can has road legal markings but I don’t reckon it will get to Old Bill stage, I’m surprised it’s come to this to be honest !!

Don’t get me wrong, I would consider myself a very considerate and decent neighbour (well, until today that is!!) I have had barbies, drinks etc. with most of my neighbours over the past few years, that why I’m surprised no one mentioned it to me instead of going to the trouble of a letter !

If you find them all aproachable go and knock on their doors and say that if you have offended any of them by starting your bike on a morning you are truly sorry and you may find out who sent the letter.

Don’t know if I’m that decent :hehe:

Hmmmmm… our neighbour is Lord Levy, we give it plenty of revs when we start our bikes…he can go sing!

We have a spare room :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a good job I don’t live next door to them

Luckly my neighbours like the sound of my bike

Ian

What you ride about naked as well!:w00t:

If that were the case I think I’d have received letters of complaint a long time ago

Where do ya live? I’ve got a nice SLR camera with a huge zoom lens if that’ll help!?

I had a letter cello-taped to my bike by my ba£$ard, miserable neighbour who alleged that it’s presence in the car park had caused someone to ‘scratch his car’… I nearly put a note on his car to say I was very sorry but I really could see how he could hold me responsible for someone else’s carelessness. Oh and FYI cello-tape some note on my bike again and I’ll wrap your f$%king car in duct tape!

Ditto. That is a polite request, they may be scared of the roughty toughty biker… I leave early for work at times and have the baffle out in a my legal can - I start and ride straight off at a slow pace keeping the revs low.

i think thats fair with a nice soft approach, my old neighbor first approach me with a baseball bat. was not a nice experience first thing in the morning. things get out of hand quickly.

You are doing them a service. People should definitely be out of bed by 7am and embracing the day.

I usually leave at about 5.30am, and the routine is be ready to go and sitting on the bike, full choke, start the bike, in first, release the clutch and pootle to the end of the road on choke. Then I annoy someone else’s neighbours as I close the choke and get going.

This is an excellent topic, not least because I was attempting to be very quite leaving on a Saturday 3 weeks ago only for the Hornet to backfire at 5.30am. I was the one apologising to my neighbours, both of which claimed they never heard it.

I love the anonymous signing of the letter which could lead you to believe it was ALL of your neighbours ganging up on you. I’d at least have the decency to sign it! (Unless you are 7ft tall and built like brick sh*t house??) :stuck_out_tongue:

i just got abuse from my neighbour who called me a twat for my alarm beeps at 0600. it came on automatically after 45 seconds which wasn’t usually long enough to get the chain unlocked. the motion sensor didn’t always turn off either so there was more than one beep. but still.

Not wishing to annoy the neighbours (I usually leave at around 0645 and often don’t get back until 2200) is one of the main reasons I’ve never gone for a fruity / sports / baffle-out can.

I don’t see any need to leave the engine warming for 5 mins before riding - all kitted up, sat on bike and ready to go before I hit the starter, then just take it very easy for the first mile or two.

You just need to find the neighbours that can’t spell (quiet not ‘quite’). and then you’ll know who sent it.

Hope it sorts itself out for you. If you’re as quiet as you can be for a while these things usually drift away.

i’m SURE my neighbours would love to send me one of these letters but there are only 5 houses in my cul de sac so i guess anonymity goes out of the window

:w00t:

I think I’d be pissed off about this.

firstly because the person hasn’t got the balls to come speak to you about it.

secondly, because if you can is legal and you are not revving the **** out of the engine, its more than reasonable to allow your engine to run for a minute before you set off.

If someone wants quiet between 7am and 8am (which too be fair is NOT an unsociable hour) I’d advise them to move to the country.

Alternatively, advise them of the DVLA or the Department of Transport address and inform them that they should address all correspondence that deals with a road legal machine to them instead of you.

I know its being selfish, and I’ve just moved to an estate where this could become a problem. I leave for work about 0645 and I think that I’ll probably ensure that I’m fully kitted before I sit on the bike and set off.

Deffo not us - my can certainly ain’t standard, and I ride the bike straight away.
