ANDREW!!! Great News....

O.K…I’ve been stopping by Bikers Edge here in Wichita off and on all riding season hoping to catch a test ride on the new 675…and each time they haven’t had one.

I stopped by today and what did I see? A brand spanking new metallic grey 675 sitting there begging to be test ridden. I’ve got an appointment to take her out Tuesday morning. I can’t wait to have a go…gorgeous bike…and I’ve never ridden the triple.

Pictures to follow next week… :thumb

Ooooooh !!!

You’re gonna like it

Had mine for quite a while now, you are gonna love every minute of it. way too much fun.

It’s a great bike, I love it, you’ll love it too Greg!

I’m REALLY looking forward to taking her out…I’ve read so many great things about it…and heard people who own one sing it’s praises…I want to see what all the fuss is about.

I’ll try to get a few snappies to post here afterwards too.

O.K…after waiting…eager with anticipation…all week-end, I FINALLY got to take my long awaited test ride aboard the new Daytona 675 today after lunch. The good news? The bike is still there…hasn’t been sold yet. The bad news? It was 104 degrees Farenheit when I took the bike out…hot hot HOT.

Here’s a quick synopsis in order of how the bike struck me…

  1. It’s a bit taller than my 04 GSX-R…but the ergonomics were good…other than the seat. The “seat” is actually a spare bit of plywood with some black plastic wrapped around it. It’s in the same category for discomfort as the Honda 600RR.

  2. Starts up…sounds great…even through the stock exhaust…it sounds a bit like my friends TL-R1000, though his has a full Yoshimura system and REALLY thumps.

  3. Transmission is easy down into first…ease out on the clutch and we’re off. The clutch is AWESOME…smooth…and very much “softer” than my GSX-R.

  4. Around the block and over to highway 135…up the on ramp and give it some…first has decent pull, not in the same league as the GSX-R…but second…the fun REALLY begins in second…nice throaty roar to go along with it too.

  5. Down 4 gears from highway speed to take a 25 mph right hander off ramp at around 50…tips in with confidence and hooks up at pretty close to maximum lean with no effort at all…I’m loving it at this point.

  6. On to highway 96…accelerate HARD out of the corner and up to 110…great fun…down 3 gears for another right hand off ramp…more of a sweeper this time…very, very agile…tips in to the turn with no effort at all and hooks up with confidence while turning. I do notice that the front brakes don’t seem to have the same “bite” as those on my GSX-R.

  7. Through a few twisties in north Wichita…and back to the shop at a more sedate pace…I notice at this point that my arse is unusually warm…must be the underseat exhaust

Final thoughts…AWESOME fun…this would be a MASSIVE track bike. I felt like a far larger percentage of this bikes performance was available to me at my current skill level.

Now, to avoid the temptation of buying one for use slogging Heartland Park in Topeka or the track in Tulsa. :drool

It’s a striking bike eh, and a real pleasure to ride! I was amazed when I rode Andrew’s on track. I am surprised by your comment about the brakes though, when I first used the brakes in anger, I nearly flipped the bike! LOL, I had to back off, as it was on the front wheel very quickly (sorry Andrew, you should have warned me).

I loved the power-delivery, you could just wang the throttle open coming out of corners and really ride the bike. Very different expreience to mine.

So… Tempted? Would you trade-in? If the financials were good, you wouldn’t be making a bad move. I’m all hoo-rarr for GSXR’s, but the 675 is an inspiring bike. I didn’t notice the hot or stiff seat thing though, you must have a small ass, hehe, but then I was in leathers and on track, most of the time spent leaning off the bike.

Jay - I would give SERIOUS consideration to a trade. I LOVED the bikes performance…and the couple of things that seemed “off” to me (the seat and the brakes) could be dealt with easily enough. I’m wondering if the brakes were just not fully seated yet as the bike was brand new? The front brakes have a 6 (or 7…can’t remember) position dial…it was set on 3. I could probably monkey with it and get them dialed in to my liking.

I just got back from riding my bike and it feels a lot different…particularly the clutch. I get arm pump in my left forearm if riding a lot of stop and go or on technical twisty bits that require a lot of going up and down the gears…The clutch on the Triumph was like butter…no effort at all.

Decisions, decisions… ROFL

Brilliant!!

Glad you liked it and I’ve decided to take my baby to Reading today on the strength of that. The 7’ll have to wait this one out

Brakes? Sounds like they were below par TBH. My favourite feature is the seemingly flat curve - more of a table top than a curve. Just power everywhere. Paul Young (Brit Superstocks) has about 135 at the wheel on his and an extra 1500rpm… oooo imagine the power…
